The Senior Manager, Portfolio Monitoring is responsible for coordinating and implementing, within the International Business segment, the Portfolio Management Framework, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered consistently across the countries, with sound credit judgment, risk management, and compliance with internal policies and external regulations. This role involves close collaboration with head office and local senior management, team leads, and external partners to drive portfolio performance and strategic initiatives acting as Subject Matter Expert (SMEs) on defined activities within the Framework.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Lead, support and contribute to the solution design, development, and maintenance of tools, and methodologies.
  • Provide user documentation and training materials, reports and defined standards for effective information presentation, and KPIs.  
  • Support regional implementation by conducting user acceptance testing (UAT), change management, and rollout activities across all countries.
  • Prepare reports on assigned Subject Matter, across International Business Banking, including insights and recommendations.
  • Ensure Compliance by acting as custodians of regulatory or policy knowledge, ensuring alignment with internal standards and external regulations across countries.
  • Liaise and collaborate with Banking, Local Risk partners and Head Office stakeholders to support and obtain approvals to required changes and provide effective challenge and assumptions validation to Banking regional proposals.
  • Support local team for risk mitigation activities and contribute to timely and effective resolution of issues across the countries.
  • Ensure compliance with Scotiabank's internal regulations and guidelines.

 

Quality Assurance:

  • Support the sampling of processes which should be consistent between countries
  • Resolve problems, by addressing project or program issues and identify improvements and gap  documenting GIMs
  • Communicate consistent methodology to local team members.
  • Collaborate with various partners such as Banking, Audit, Global Operational Risk and Shared Services to address root causes of gaps or issues in existing processes and potential opportunities.

 

Others:

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

 Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Spanish language proficiency is considered a strong asset
  • Demonstrated Experience in credit risk management, portfolio management, or corporate banking
  • Strong understanding of Commercial Banking processes, products and services, including a working knowledge of the systems, routines and operating procedures.
  • Excellent credit skills, including analytical negotiation, and problem-solving skills and sound judgment
  • Understanding of AML, Higher Risk Client and KYC requirements
  • Superior risk assessment and analytical skills
  • Good accounting and financial analysis skills
  • Good understanding of commercial management systems
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Post graduate education in business and/or related field
