Role

The Economic Strategy and Investment (ESI) Division is focused on ensuring policies and strategies are developed with a broad economic lens and line of sight to economic growth and job creation. The division consists of two branches: Economic Policy & Investment Competitiveness, and Economic Intelligence and Investment Services. The Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) of Economic Strategy and Investment is responsible for shaping and delivering Alberta’s economic policy agenda, with a focus on long-term growth, job creation, and investment attraction.

 

Reporting to the Deputy Minister (DM), the Assistant Deputy Minister is responsible for developing and delivering on economic policies and strategies for Alberta; undertaking economic modeling and data analytics, as well as policy foresight and future-thinking to support policy and strategy development; managing the implementation and legislative aspects of core policy strategies; and, coordinating various policy pieces through the decision-making process.

 

As the ADM, you would lead Alberta’s economic policy priorities by removing policy barriers and enhancing a competitive landscape through integrated data analytics, trend analysis and stakeholder intelligence.

 

As a division with a diverse range of expertise, ranging from stakeholder engagement, policy development, intergovernmental strategy, program delivery, and specialized economic analysis, you would be accountable for developing and empowering staff at all levels to achieve success. Your leadership would directly impact policy development, job creation, and investment attraction at the provincial, national, and international levels. Success in this role requires collaboration across government and with external stakeholders.

Qualifications

You bring extensive executive leadership experience, ideally in public policy, economic development, or a related field. You have expertise in strategic policy development, with a strong understanding of economics and the ability to drive innovative, results-oriented outcomes. Broad knowledge of Alberta’s industries and business climate, with awareness of national and international economic trends, will be essential. As an influential and highly credible leader with a strong ability to lead change, empower teams, and build organizational capacity, particularly in fiscally challenging contexts. A demonstrated commitment to collaborative leadership and fostering partnerships to navigate dynamic and evolving environments will be vital. Experience using research, with stakeholder engagement and negotiations, will enable you to develop creative, evidence-based solutions to complex challenges.

 

A related undergraduate degree is required; a master’s degree in economics, public policy, business, or a related discipline is considered a strong asset.

 

 

Salary

$6,403.39 - $8,403.71 bi-weekly ($167,128 - $219,336 annually)
