The Team

Scotiabank’s Cards Engineering team is dedicated to delivering best-in-class, end-to-end technology solutions that power the bank’s credit card products and services. We design and build robust backend systems and APIs that enable seamless, secure, and innovative customer experiences across all digital and physical channels.

 

The Solutions Architect plays a critical leadership role within the Cards Engineering team, ensuring that our technology strategy aligns with long-term business goals, regulatory requirements, and enterprise architecture standards. This role is responsible for driving the technical design and architecture across the card’s ecosystem, with a focus on modernization, scalability, resilience, and customer-centric innovation. You will lead the development of future-ready solutions that support agile delivery, foster engineering excellence, and enable high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative teams.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Lead the end-to-end solution architecture for credit card platforms, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and business objectives.
  • Design scalable, secure, and resilient systems that support high availability and performance.
  • Collaborate with product owners, engineering leads, and enterprise architects to define technical roadmaps and architectural blueprints.
  • Champion modernization initiatives, including cloud adoption, API-first design, and event-driven architectures.
  • Provide architectural governance and mentorship to engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and security standards across all solutions.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
  • Work with teams to develop viable business cases focusing on moving towards target state technology architecture and capabilities.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • 8+ years of IT experience with at least 3 years of experience providing hands-on architectural design. 
  • Strong understanding of frontend development, specifically microapp design patterns. 
  • Bachelor (equivalent or higher) degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline. 
  • Experience working in Financial Services domain highly desirable. 
  • Experience in designing/developing cloud native solutions in GCP, Azure, AWS platforms. 
  • Experience in architecting end-to-end solutions involving multiple technology platforms and leveraging established architecture/design frameworks.
  • Practical experience in addressing data management challenges as part of architecture solution development. 
  • Experience in Security Architecture on the areas of authentication, authorization, and auditing. 
  • Proven hands-on experience in leading Proof of Concept / Proof of Technology initiatives. 
  • Experience in Agile, DevOps and iterative software development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills
  • Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries, build relationships, and achieve broader organizational goals. 
  • Must be flexible and ready to adapt to a dynamic environment.
