Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS) is looking for someone to join our supervisory team as a Site Supervisor with our Halifax Regional Police (HRP) contract. The Supervisor oversees the site Security Detail which includes: Front Counter, CPIC Transcription, Criminal Record Checks, Call Taking/Report Taking, Courts and Building Security. 

CNS Supervisors play a key role in the operational success of our contracts; responsible for leading our people, delivering high level customer experience and managing all aspects of our commitment to our client. This includes the overall supervision of personnel, the administrative management of the site, discipline, dress and deportment, monitoring morale, client communications and contract delivery. The successful candidates will form a supervisory team that will deliver operational support to our client and will be a key part of the success of this longstanding and valued contract. 

THE ROLE
Position: Security Supervisor

Reports to: District Manager
Responsible For: Supervision, coaching, and administration of shift personnel

Working Hours: Monday - Friday 0700 - 1500

Closing Date: August 14 2025

Please note this role is in a Unionised environment, although the Site Supervisor role will not be Unionised. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

While duties vary by assignment, the responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assigning duties and shifts of the site Security Detail and ensuring OnWatch scheduling program is maintained.
  • Complete and submit Commissionaire's hours of work. 
  • Track staffing requirements and working with HQ to post vacant positions and conduct interviews. 
  • Monitoring satisfaction of services through regular visits to all posts throughout the shift.
  • Coordinating security checks and security interview dates with HRP HR for new hires.  
  • Completing new hire orientation / training of Security Detail members assigned to the site.
  • Maintaining physical security of the site and implementing required security measures by our client.
  • Reviewing operations such as the non-emergency phone line for quality assurance. 
  • Conduct Site Safety and Security Orientation to visitors and third-party contractors.
  • Assisting general public (including complaints), controlling visitor access, ensuring compliance to site procedures.
  • Conducting random personnel baggage and vehicle searches. 
  • Monitoring and controlling access to Restricted Areas.
  • Performing associated clerical and administrative requirements in accordance with HRP operating policies.
  • Monitoring of HRP surveillance systems.
  • Responding to emergency situations, security breaches or incidents in accordance with HRP policies.
  • Conduct investigations and complete detailed accident and incident reports in a timely matter, inform the District Manager of all incidents requiring their authority. 
  • Ensuring the appropriate level of staffing so that CNS can meet the service level targets of the client.
  • Effectively coach, motivate, discipline and provide feedback when necessary.
  • Ensure all pre-shift and in-shift inspections are completed.
  • File and manage documentation related to the site, this will include CSRR Manuals and Site Work Instructions 
  • Understand Occupational Health and Security regulations as they apply to security workings at HRP locations.
  • Address all union issues including grievance procedures. 

 

 Candidates must: 

  • Be aged 19 or older.
  • Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.
  • Be eligible to apply for, and pass.
    • Government of Canada Enhanced Reliability
    • Emergency First Aid & CPR
    • Achieve a Halifax Regional Municipality clearance for Halifax Regional Police 
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English.

 

Qualifications and Skills

 

The incumbent must demonstrate experience with the following key qualifications, skills, and attributes:

  • Be qualified in, or have the ability to pass, CNS advanced leadership/management training courses (CSC 1 and 2)
  • Comfortable in use of computers and computer-based applications
  • Possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Possess excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgement and decision making during emergency or high stress situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt to changing situations.
  • Highly professional and discreet
  • Excellent coaching, negotiating, and mentoring abilities.
  • Experience in On-Watch application considered an asset.
