 Purpose

 

Contributes to the overall success of the Global Transaction Banking organization ensuring specific goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

The Director conducts comparative business analyses, drives and leads at the GTB-wide level and assists with the strategic planning process. The incumbent has exposure to C-Suite senior leadership across the Bank, and must have a high degree of experience in leading complex projects with multi-dimensional groups, drawn from multiple parts of the organization.

 

Reporting to the EVP, Global Transaction Banking, the Director, Strategic Business Support serves as a thought partner and strategic advisor.  This role supports the  EVP, Global Transaction Banking to maximize their impact and further GTB’s strategic priorities.   There are four critical areas where this is achieved: effective time management, forward planning, strategic support and relationship management.

 

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Act as a trusted partner to the EVP, Global Transaction Banking, helping him/her to define overall strategy and priorities and ensuring he/she is set up to achieve them by:
  • Driving the effectiveness and efficiency of time and ensuring it aligns with the most critical organizational priorities, where the EVP, Global Transaction Banking voice is specifically necessary
  • Gathering necessary information and analyses from various sources and key stakeholders, to identify opportunities for synergies to drive operational efficiencies and meet objectives
  • Developing integrated and holistic strategies to ensure the EVP, Global Transaction Banking is well-positioned to make decisions on a wide range of issues
  • Building an understanding of the critical work that is happening across the business and surfacing issues, bright spots, and challenges
  • Proactive identification of issues that could impact the successful execution of the EVP, Global Transaction Banking’s commitments. This responsibility involves elevating those issues that the EVP should be aware and framing/positioning ideas to resolve the problem/mitigate the risk
  • Acting as a liaison/advisor to senior bank leaders across all business lines, and external stakeholders as appropriate, to help advance both the division’s priorities and the bank’s strategic priorities.

 

Ensure the Senior Leadership Team operate effectively as a team, including:

 

  • Partnering with the EVP, Global Transaction Banking and others to build a strong collaborative ‘win as one team’ culture
  • Stakeholders that this role will interact with ranges across all business lines and pre-dominantly Director to executive level positions
  • Work with the senior leadership team and key stakeholders in the coordination of strategic external and significant internal events for the EVP, Global Transaction Banking, including priority clients, regions/business groups and events
  • Serving as support to leadership team meetings recording follow-ups and deliverables. Orchestrate and facilitate group events, meeting agendas, logistics, and follow-ups within the senior leadership team. Ensure that meetings, deadlines, presentation, and other duties of the EVP, Global Transaction Banking office are carried out seamlessly.

 

Strategic Planning 

 

  • Participate in integrated cross-functional teams to provide insights of business opportunities through strategy-focused intelligence and analysis for planning and execution of strategic initiatives
  • Support in formulating, development and communication of strategic planning
  • Apply financial and statistical techniques to identify key economic business drivers and to derive business cases around scenarios, risks, and options
  • Identify enablers and key issues prior to and during implementation, raise issues with key stakeholders and offer solutions
  • Ensure strategic initiatives meet the necessary rigor, strategic alignment, and return objectives; fully reflect the costs and benefits associated with the initiative
  • Drive the execution and ongoing management of strategy planning at the enterprise level
  • Lead competitive/business environment research and benchmarking to determine emerging issues and trends and analyze the impact/implications of those trends on the Bank's strategic plan

 

Relationship Management

 

  • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) to facilitate strategy development, execution and the achievement of deliverables (COO, HR, Finance, Legal, Risk, Compliance, Audit, and Communications/Marketing)
  • Building a diverse network and generating opportunities to collaborate with key stakeholders across departments and outside the Bank
  • Managing the relationship between Enterprise Strategy and the strategy functions within the Business Lines & Corporate Functions
  • Acting as point of contact and as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned programs and projects

 

 

Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

 

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

 

  • Champions a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team

 

What You'll Bring:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, preferably in the disciplines of Business Management, and Communications.  Advanced degree (MBA etc) desired.
  • Preferably experience in a high level Executive Support role in a global, multi-faceted organization.
  • Superior understanding of the various business lines in the bank and how they interconnect
  • Effective communication skills. The ability to clearly communicate with senior executives and others in the organization is paramount; especially in fast-paced moments, you’ll need to be clear and ask for clarity in return.
  • Collaborative temperament and excellent relationship management skills
  • Top-notch organization & problem solving skills.
  • Organizational and administrative agility; developed and superior negotiation skills.
  • A sense of ownership. The Executive Support role allows the EVP, Global Transaction Banking to perform at the highest possible level. The incumbent is expected to be responsive but also proactive, addressing needs that the EVP, Global Transaction Banking may not be aware of.
  • Ability to work calmly and intentionally under pressure.
  • A commitment to confidentiality.
  • Strong writing and verbal skills. The ability to communicate information clearly is fundamental to this role. You will be asked to draft documents, edit others, and communicate with a variety of internal and outside stakeholders.
