Our leading consulting client is seeking an AWS Data Engineer on behalf of their top 5 banking clients. This will be a 6 month contract to start - hybrid 2 days a week on site in their Toronto office.

The Data Engineer will have strong expertise in Python, PySpark, and SQL to design and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS Glue and Apache Airflow. The ideal candidate will have deep experience orchestrating data workflows, optimizing data models in Amazon Redshift, and integrating various AWS services to support analytics and business intelligence initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS Glue and Apache Airflow.
  • Write clean, efficient code in Python, PySpark, and SQL for data transformation and processing tasks.
  • Create and manage complex Apache Airflow DAGs, ensuring proper scheduling, dependency handling, and error management.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries and data models in Amazon Redshift.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver scalable data solutions.
  • Implement and enforce data quality checks, schema validations, and pipeline monitoring processes.
  • Utilize and integrate AWS services including S3, Lambda, Step Functions, Athena, Glue Catalog, and CloudWatch.
  • Ensure high data integrity, performance, and reliability across all pipeline components.

Qualifications:

  • 6-8 years experience in a similar role
  • Proven experience with Apache Airflow, including DAG development and management.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS Glue (Glue Jobs and Glue Catalog).
  • Proficient in Python, PySpark, and SQL.
  • Deep understanding of cloud-based data warehousing, especially Amazon Redshift.
  • Experience integrating various AWS services for data orchestration and processing.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) is a plus.
  • Experience with schema evolution, CI/CD for data pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
