Agilus is recruiting for a Chief Estimator - Wet Utilities in the Construction industry in Vaughan, Ontario.
The Chief Estimator – Wet Utilities leads the estimating team in developing precise and competitive bids for wet utility projects, including water, sewer, and stormwater systems. This role demands extensive industry expertise, strategic foresight, and strong leadership to secure profitable contracts while upholding high standards of quality, compliance, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor the estimating team, fostering a culture of accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Develop and implement estimating strategies aligned with company goals and market trends
Collaborate with executive leadership on go/no-go decisions for bid opportunities
Oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates for wet utility projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs and Review and approve final bid packages before submission
Analyze historical data and market conditions to improve cost forecasting and competitiveness
Interpret project plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to identify risks and opportunities; Conduct site visits and pre-bid meetings to gather critical information
Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to ensure alignment on project scope and execution
Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure cost-effective solutions
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred)
Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) designation preffered
Minimum 10 years of experience in estimating wet utility projects, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
Strong understanding of wet utility construction methods, codes, and regulations
Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
Experience with design-build and alternative delivery methods and
familiarity with local municipal standards and permitting processes
