What you will be doing…

This position is located in the Northern Region at Truro Campus.

Facilities and Engineering is accountable to provide effective and timely maintenance and custodial service that promote commitment to the care and preservation of campus facilities, a safe work environment, effective risk management in order to create and maintain a welcoming environment reflecting standards of excellence in support of NSCC programs.

NSCC is committed to taking a leadership role as the College continues its journey towards environmental sustainability for the benefit of all Nova Scotians. As a steward of the environment, you will be responsible to demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining an environmentally sustainable workplace in all aspects of your position (such as waste management programs, energy efficiency programs and conservation).

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, as the Building Services Lead, you will plan, schedule, direct and functionally supervise all duties applicable to building services and facilities support staff in addition to general maintenance and cleaning duties.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a high school diploma or recognized equivalent (GED) or willingness to attain Grade 12 or GED within your probationary period. Building Environment Systems (BES) Level 1 or equivalent. You have a Forklift Operators Certificate or are willing to obtain this certification within your probationary period. A Building Trade Certification would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a facilities management department with an emphasis on the management and supervision of custodial, maintenance, general building trades and shipping and receiving functions.
  • Experience aiding with an HVAC, Plumbing or Electrical trade would be considered an asset.
  • Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations would be considered an asset
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, Megamation and building automation systems software.
  • You have demonstrated experience providing general and preventative maintenance duties
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is a bona fide relevant occupational requirement for this position.

  • You are familiar working within and committed to complying with OHS policies and procedures.
  • You have a proven ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to Work orders and Preventative Maintenance.
  • You possess a trade or you possess experience providing assistance to a trade.
  • You demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in Facilities Management.
  • You are dedicated to life-long learning and keeping up with new technologies in facilities maintenance field.
  • You show a strong commitment to community involvement
  • You are able to perform all physical duties of the job as required for the operation and maintenance of the facilities and operation of small hand tools and shop equipment.
