Operational Resilience is receiving heightened attention from global regulators, and expectations in this area are evolving continuously. Scotiabank is advancing its operational resilience capabilities through the Enterprise Operational Risk function and is adding a Manager-level position in the Global Operational Resilience 2nd line team. This individual will report to the Senior Manager of Operational Resilience and contribute to the development and implementation of the 2nd line enterprise-wide Operational Resilience strategy. This function will also offer guidance on operational resilience to various stakeholders, ensuring that operational resilience and risks are managed appropriately and align with the Bank’s risk appetite. 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Support with the development, implementation and maintenance of the Operational Resilience oversight and effective challenge program roadmap, i.e., outlines key milestones, deliverables, and timelines ensuring that activities align with the team’s strategic objectives and goals.
  • Assist with performing oversight and effective challenge activities to provide assurance over the quality and efficacy of the Operational Resilience Program and Business Continuity Management Program executed by various business lines and corporate functions.
  • Ensure that the risk horizon scanning process related to operational resilience, as well as key risk and support functions (including technology and information security, business continuity/disaster management, third-party risk, and data risk), is effective in identifying and assessing emerging risks. These risks should be reported to senior management and the first line of defense
  • Act as the subject matter expert for operational resilience and provide advice and guidance to first and second line teams.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Operational Resilience Framework, and 2nd Line Operating Standard.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all regulatory requirements and are prepared to support in the interaction with regulators on new and updated regulations.
  • Support with the design and development of enterprise (2nd Line) Operational Resilience reporting to various committees, and senior leadership.
  • Participate in Operational Resilience related Working Groups and contribute from a 2nd line perspective.
  • Support in identifying efficiencies and synergies on similar activities across segments.
  • Ad-hoc tasks that may be required to be undertaken or as the business requires.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. 
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Undergraduate degree or similar preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of Risk Management concepts like Operational risk management, Risk appetite, Internal controls, Business continuity management, Crises management, Third party risk management, Cyber risk, and related operational resilience concepts.
  • Knowledge of Scotiabank business lines and financial institutions, infrastructures, and markets preferred.
  • Possess knowledge of Operational Resilience related regulations globally, e.g., OSFI E-21, OSFI B-10, OSFI B-13, DORA and CP26/23 Operational Resilience an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to identify, manage and collaborate with multiple stakeholders across the global footprint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in preparing communications and engaging effectively with business partners/stakeholders across the Bank.
  • Demonstrate ability to exercise sound judgment as to the materiality of risks where identified.
  • Strong presentation skills to explain regulations and internal policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrate proven time management skills and the adaptability to address shifting priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • High standards of performance, confidentiality, integrity, timeliness, and efficiency must always be upheld.
