The Senior Cloud Engineer, Infrastructure as Code at Cloud Platform Engineering, Scotiabank, Canada plays a crucial role in driving cloud technology modernization and adoption. This position involves significant collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless integration of Cloud, Platform Engineering, and DevOps capabilities into business outcomes.

 

While Cloud Engineering will continue to own the design of the cloud infrastructure, this role will focus on ensuring standards and consistency across teams to accelerate delivery. You will leverage your expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to translate Cloud Product needs and Cloud Engineering requirements into usable, secure and easily extendable IaC solutions. Your contributions will be instrumental in bringing product visions to life and ensuring that the infrastructure is robust, scalable, and adaptable to evolving business needs.


Is this role right for you? In this role, you will: 

 

  • Evolve Design Standards and Best Practices: Collaborate with other Cloud Platform engineering teams to evolve and expand Infrastructure as Code (IaC) design standards and best practices.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Cloud Product and Principal Engineers to ensure seamless integration and alignment of IaC initiatives.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical mentorship to engineers within your team and evangelize best-practices when working with other engineering teams to implement IaC solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in IaC processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
  • Innovation and Problem-Solving: Lead innovative projects and solve complex technical challenges related to IaC, ensuring the infrastructure is robust and adaptable to evolving needs.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Proficiency in Terraform: Extensive experience in using Terraform for infrastructure automation and management, including writing and maintaining Terraform modules, linting standards, automated testing and best-practice guidance.
  • Leading By Example: Prior experience participating in demos, workshops and training sessions to support the upskilling and cross-training of other engineers.
  • Expertise in Helm: Strong knowledge of Helm for managing Kubernetes applications, including creating and managing Helm charts.
  • Understanding of Policy as Code (PoC): Demonstrated knowledge in HashiCorp Sentinel and/or Open Policy Agent (OPA), including practical applications and the ability to write Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to effectively leverage PoC for compliance and governance.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills to troubleshoot and optimize infrastructure as code solutions
