The Senior Manager, Acquisitions, Partnerships & Expansion (“APEX”) is tasked with supporting the APEX team in furtherance of its mandate of leading the development and execution of growth and expansionary strategies for Global Wealth Management (“GWM”) through mergers and acquisitions (M&A), strategic 3rd party partnerships and joint ventures, and the development and implementation of new businesses, products, services, and capabilities.
Accountabilities
- Support the APEX team with the development and execution of growth and expansionary strategies, including: the identification, evaluation, structuring, execution and management of M&A transactions, strategic partnerships, and other complex growth-focused commercial arrangements; and the ideation, development and launch of organic expansion initiatives, including new businesses, products, services, capabilities, and other revenue enhancing and value creation opportunities;
- Support the APEX team, working closely with Scotiabank’s Strategic Transactions & Review team, with the development and implementation of financial models, valuations, synergies, budgets and transaction strategies in connection with M&A, partnership and commercial transactions and arrangements;
- Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and opportunity assessments to inform and build business cases and to support strategic decisions, and develop and present clear, persuasive, compelling presentations for senior executives, boards, and other internal and external stakeholders;
- Contribute to post-transaction activities, including integration planning and execution, synergy tracking, development and execution of strategies to achieve synergies, growth and revenue targets, performance monitoring, partnership relationship management, etc.;
- Collaborate cross-functionally with business lines and corporate and control function teams, including finance, legal, compliance, operations, technology, risk, and marketing to ensure alignment and execution of strategic initiatives;
- Support the creation and launch of new businesses, products, services and capabilities, including early-stage strategy, validation, and go-to-market planning and launch;
- Support strategically important decisions in the context of a demanding, time sensitive, and complex transactional environment, including with respect to deal strategy and tactics, transactional terms and conditions and legal and structural significance, which have the potential to significantly impact the Bank;
- Perform complex evaluations of acquisition and partnership candidates and other commercial counterparties in high volume due diligence exercises to identify and assess legal, commercial and reputational risks and contingencies that impact valuation, pricing, the ability to complete a transaction and ensure Bank objectives are met;
- Manage multiple strategic projects concurrently, ensuring timelines, resources, and priorities are aligned with business objectives;
- Maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships, serving as a trusted advisor and strategic thought partner within the organization; and
- Support the evaluation, investment and management of Scotiabank’s 10-year $115 million affinity partnership program with the Canadian Medical Association;
- Ensuring that business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with applicable law and regulations, and Scotiabank’s internal policies, procedures and risk parameters.

Education / Experience
The Senior Manager, APEX role contains accountabilities that are diverse and multi-dimensional. The preferred candidate will satisfy a majority of the following education, experience and expertise criteria:
- University degree in Business, Finance, Economics or a related field, or commensurate work experience
- 5+ years' experience in corporate development, consulting, investment banking, strategy, or fast-paced entrepreneurial environments, with exposure to growth, deal-making, strategic initiatives or project management
- Experience and comfort working in a fast-paced, high-growth or entrepreneurial environment, with strong organizational skills and adaptability to manage competing priorities and tight timelines.
- Experience building business cases and conducting market assessments, due diligence and opportunity evaluations, with strong written and oral communication skills to create persuasive executive presentations
- Experience leading complex, cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders, workstreams and dimensions
- Experience leading or supporting the identification, structuring, negotiation, completion and management of one or more of: M&A transactions, strategic partnerships or joint ventures, organic growth strategies, complex commercial arrangements, and/or the development and launch of new businesses and/or product and service offerings
- Excellent proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, with a track record of producing impactful models, dashboards, and strategic presentations that support data-driven decision making
- Proven ability to shape strategic outcomes by influencing cross-functional and guiding high-impact decisions
- Experience with or exposure to financial modeling, valuations, budgeting and forecasting, and/or involvement with developing or achieving transaction synergies and integration planning
