We’re assisting our client, a respected community-focused, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families facing communication challenges, in the search for a Director of Operations and Finance. This is a key leadership role that combines strategic oversight with hands-on operational management across finance, human resources, IT, and facilities.
Working as part of a collaborative Executive Team, you will help shape organizational strategy while ensuring the day-to-day infrastructure is effective, compliant, and aligned with the mission. This is a hybrid position, 1-2 days a week in office in Toronto.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide strategic financial leadership by overseeing all aspects of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and long-term financial planning. Prepare and present clear financial reports to the Executive Team and Board, ensure compliance with CRA and accounting standards, manage audits, and lead reporting for grants and funders.
- Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures that support transparency, accountability, and alignment with the organization’s goals. Collaborate on investment strategies and monitor financial trends across operational and fundraising initiatives.
- Lead all human resources functions, including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, compensation, and employee relations. Ensure HR policies are current and aligned with employment legislation while fostering a supportive, inclusive, and values-driven work culture.
- Supervise and support a small team of direct reports across finance, communications, and administration, providing coaching and oversight to help them thrive and contribute effectively.
- Oversee day-to-day operational functions such as facilities management, procurement, vendor contracts, and legal compliance. Act as the organization’s Privacy Officer, conducting risk assessments, maintaining policies, and implementing mitigation strategies in line with regulatory standards.
- Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality improvement plans and organizational KPIs, using data to support decision-making and strategic progress.
- Direct information systems strategy, ensuring financial software, client record systems, and internal tools are secure, efficient, and responsive to the organization’s needs. Manage IT vendors and oversee cybersecurity and privacy compliance (PHIPA, PIPEDA).
- Coordinate and attend Board and committee meetings, ensuring governance practices are in line with ONCA and internal policies. Support strategic planning and maintain official records in collaboration with legal counsel.
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Team to guide cross-functional initiatives, support fundraising and donor engagement activities, and represent the organization externally on relevant committees and working groups.
What You Bring:
- University degree in Finance, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or a related field
- 5–7 years of progressive leadership experience, ideally in the non-profit or community health sector
- Strong background in finance, human resources, operations, and organizational governance
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support cross-functional teams
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, mission-driven environment with multiple priorities
