The Canadian Prime Brokerage business resides within Global Prime Finance (“GPF”) and is a key component of Global Markets’ Global Equities Line of Business.  Prime Brokerage is a comprehensive suite of services targeted to sophisticated institutional clients who need to borrow securities and cash in order to execute investment strategies. Clients are typically hedge funds, fund managers or professional investors.  Prime Brokerage enables clients to use the services of BMO and non-BMO executing brokers while consolidating positions in a centralized account where the Prime Brokerage Team facilitates financing, collateral support, custody/asset servicing and operational support such as trade settlement, corporate actions, entitlements, and disbursements.   The Prime Brokerage Client Service Relationship Management Team is responsible for relationship management and asset servicing of diversified client portfolios comprised of publicly listed and traded securities for each client/account.

Entry to Mid-level client facing role.  The Prime Brokerage Client Service Analyst will be a member of the Prime Brokerage Client Service Relationship Management Team and serve as a central point of contact for Prime Brokerage clients and act as their liaison within the Prime Brokerage business and across BMO.  Successful candidates need to demonstrate a firm understanding of trading strategies deployed by hedge funds, investment funds, and their associated risks.  Prior experience with margin, market risk, credit, operations, tax, Canadian regulatory landscape.  Client relationship management, problem solving skills, collaborative approach.  Trade execution (equity or fixed income) an asset but not a requirement.  Focus to ultimately develop strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the central point of contact and liaison for clients across BMO, including Stock Loan, Trading Desks, Operations, Technology, Credit, Risk, Compliance, AML, and Onboarding.

Use expertise in financial markets to cultivate and manage relationships with Prime Brokerage clients.

Builds positive client relations at all levels including key decision makers, traders, and operational personnel through deep/comprehensive understanding of client needs and alignment of our products/services.

Anticipates changes in client needs and provides strategic/creative solutions.

Recognizes opportunities to cross-sell and to grow share of clients' wallet.

Responds to inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community in a professional manner and determine acceptable solutions.

Identifies and delivers on opportunities to improve the client experience; brings in partners where appropriate; delivers a full BMO experience.

Develops and/or facilitates development of client-focused solutions based on financial expertise, organizational, technical, regulatory and environmental client awareness.

• Daily monitoring of client portfolios and gross exposures and work closely with clients to remediate exposure violations.
• Margin call management & key stakeholder escalation around significant margin calls, missed margin calls, or recurring or persistent margin issues.
• Support credit and margin conversations internally with stakeholders such as Credit, Risk, and the Line of Business.
• Participate in client pitches, demos, and client meetings with the Line of Business, Corporate Banking and Risk as required.
• Oversee client accounts and provide custody and asset servicing support financing, margin, execution, clearing, settlement,  corporate actions, restructurings, and reporting.
• Understand complexity of transactions and related risk (credit, market, operational, legal / compliance, etc.).
• Assist clients with transactional inquiries, collateral management, bespoke margin requests, settlements, private securities, AML/KYC reviews and updates to tax documentation.
• Review revenues, portfolio composition and balance trends by client across all products within Prime Brokerage and provide commentary to internal stakeholders on material or interesting changes and trends.
• Networking – attend industry events and get involved in industry associations.
• Participate in client meetings and entertainment.
• Maintain call notes for client calls/meetings.
• Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

• Typically 3+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Degree in Accounting/Economics/Mathematics/Statistics, CFA preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of capital markets, pricing, and trading/hedging strategies and familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures and various capital markets products.
• Strong understanding of trading procedures and broader regulatory and financial concepts.
• Strong quantitative analysis, technology and financial analysis skills.
• Strong risk management skills, fundamental analysis skills and leadership abilities.
• Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience and industry knowledge.

Base Salary:

CAD $150,000

Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
