The STO role, is a hybrid role, based out of Toronto, that reports into Director of Retail Lending Development. This role is for a Senior Technology Officer with overall accountability of application development for some of our largest mainframe retail lending systems at BMO. This individual is someone who combines technical expertise with a genuine passion for people. This role is ideal for someone with a drive for mainframe innovation, who leads with empathy, and inspires teams to deliver quality change while fostering a culture of wellness, collaboration, and continuous growth. They will partner with our other technology and business teams to ensure that changes to our systems maintain the integrity of our applications. This is a hybrid role, based out of Toronto.
The successful candidate will drive the overall software development lifecycle including working across functional teams to transform requirements into features, managing development teams and processes, and conducting software testing and maintenance. Specific project areas of focus include
translating user requirements into technical specifications, writing code and managing the preparation of design specifications. Supports system design, provides advice on security requirements and debugs business systems and service applications. Applies deep knowledge of algorithms, data structures and programming languages to develop high quality technology applications and services - including tools, standards, and relevant software platforms based on business requirements.
Ensures that code/configurations adhere to the security, logging, error handling, and performance standards and non-functional requirements.
Evaluates new technologies for fit with the program/system/eco-system and the associated upstream and downstream impacts on process, data, and risk.
Follows release management processes and standards and applies version controls.
Assists in interpreting and documentation of client requirements.

Monitors and tracks performance, and addresses any issues
Triage and assist in in the resolution a variety of high impact problems / projects through in-depth evaluation of complex business processes, system processes, and industry standards
Work with delivery teams to review and understand new projects and architecture
Provide expertise and advanced knowledge of application programming and ensure application design adheres to the overall architectural blueprint and target state
Utilize advanced knowledge of system flow and monitor standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation
Develop comprehensive knowledge of our retail lending business use this knowledge to prioritize, communicate and resolve outstanding issues
Provide in-depth analysis with interpretive thinking to define issues and develop innovative solutions
Serve as advisor or coach to mid-level developers and analysts, allocating work as necessary
Appropriately assess risk for all deliverables and change
Qualifications:
5+ years of leadership experience
5 + years experience in Mainframe Application / COBOL / PL/1 / CICS / DB2 / VSAM / MQ development,
Experience in leading a technology team either in a project management or technical support role
Advanced knowledge of the financial industry and lending domain
Ability to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate
Demonstrated leadership and project management skills
