The Trade, Investment and Food Safety Division expands and diversifies Alberta’s food and bio-product manufacturing sector in local and global markets while also providing effective food safety assurance systems.

The Export and Investment Branch focuses on attracting investment to Alberta’s agri-processing sectors and expanding export opportunities for Alberta’s businesses. The Branch also designs and delivers Canadian Agricultural Partnership funding programs related to growth and value-added development and provides performance measurement and program evaluation services for the division.

The Investment Attraction and Evaluation Section consists of two units – the Investment Attraction unit and the Monitoring and Evaluation unit. The eight-member Investment Attraction unit works closely with our seven agriculture-dedicated staff in the Alberta International Offices in Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore, Mexico City, Minneapolis and Düsseldorf. Together the team takes a collaborative approach to increasing investment in Alberta.

Role Responsibilities

Alberta's government sees agriculture as a key economic driver for growth in Alberta. The agri-food sector is an important part of the Alberta economy, contributing $10.3 billion in gross domestic product and employing approximately 58,000 Albertans. To successfully grow the agriculture industry in Alberta, it is necessary to create and promote Alberta as a stable, credible and profitable location for value-added agriculture investors. Attracting investment is a competitive business. Alberta is competing with other Canadian provinces, U.S. states and other countries to attract investment into the agriculture sector. In 2024-25, the ministry facilitated approximately $725.8 million in new investments that supported the creation of 501 new and permanent jobs.

The ideal candidate is highly organized and thrives in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple diverse projects and tight deadlines with efficiency and focus. You possess exceptional attention to detail and strong interpersonal communication skills - both written and oral. You are driven to close a deal when stakes are high. Reporting to the Manager, the Senior Investment Attraction Officer will take an investor-focused approach to increase investment in Alberta's value-added agriculture sector.
