Payroll Specialist
Oshawa, ON | 1 year contract Regular Full-Time | Hybrid
A growing organization in the regulated sector is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support their HR and Finance team. Reporting to the Payroll & Compensation Manager, this position will be responsible for end-to-end payroll processing, benefits and pension administration, and providing general HR support for both unionized and non-unionized staff.
Execute full-cycle payroll including onboarding, timesheet processing, pay adjustments, and offboarding in accordance with policies and collective agreements.
Manage updates and changes in the HRIS system; ensure documentation is audit-ready.
Respond to employee and manager inquiries related to payroll, benefits, and pensions.
Reconcile and process year-end payroll items such as T4s, WSIB, and EHT.
Prepare and remit payments for union dues, pension contributions, and benefit plans.
Support testing and implementation of new payroll systems or enhancements.
Maintain organizational charts and process new hire paperwork.
Assist with headcount tracking and finance reporting.
Stay current with legislative changes impacting payroll.
Minimum 3 years of payroll and/or HR experience.
Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification from the National Payroll Institute is a strong asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and navigate complex organizational structures.
