JOB SUMMARY

Perform the surveillance necessary to prevent accidents by administering policies, procedures, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of patrons using the pool and perform rescues and first aid necessary for the preservation of life in a team setting.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduate of Grade 10.
Minimum age requirement is 15 years of age.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Current National Lifeguard Pool certificate
Current Lifesaving Instructor certificate
Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
Current Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate
AODA Accessibility/IASR Training
Current Lifesaving Instructor certificate is an asset

KNOWLEDGE

  • City of Ottawa and Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services departmental policies, guidelines and directives
  • City of Ottawa emergency response procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.       
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18, requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (Level 2) check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3).; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
