Role

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Lands Division, the Executive Director (ED), Lands Planning is responsible for leading key aspects of Alberta’s land management system, including sub-regional plans, Environment and Parks (EPA) contributions to regional planning, and cumulative effects management frameworks, all of which contribute to Government of Alberta priorities. 

 

In this ED role, you will lead a high-performing team of professionals, all working towards developing sub-regional plans, issue specific plans, water management plans; environmental management frameworks (for air quality, water (quality/quantity), groundwater, and biodiversity); and regional assessments. You will also lead the transition to implementation of plans, development of cumulative effects decision support tools, reporting of results, and evaluation and improvements to the effectiveness of plans and environmental frameworks.

 

This work is done in collaboration across the Government of Alberta, requiring the ability to build strong relationships with other leaders in a variety of different ministries. In addition, exceptional stakeholder relations skills are required to build similarly strong relationships with a diverse set of external audiences, including industry representatives, land user organizations, First Nations and Metis.

 

 

You will also be responsible for briefing senior leaders and elected officials about the work, providing the best, most comprehensive advice possible.

 

 

Qualifications

You have extensive related senior management experience with a background in leading teams, developing strategy and directing multi-disciplinary programs in large public sector organizations. You bring exceptional systems approach to strategic and operational planning. Familiarity with applicable legislation and regulations along with an understanding of policies associated with the Land-use Framework and the Integrated Resource Management system will support your success in this role.

 

Your systems approach will enable you to foster a collaborative culture to work effectively with stakeholders on sensitive issues in a dynamic environment. You are an effective communicator with strong organizational and project management skills, and a proven ability to successfully brief senior leaders. Your reputation for empowering teams and capacity for facilitating change will support your success.

 

A graduate degree and/or a degree with a combination of related experience is preferred.

 

 

Salary

$5,234.94 - $6,879.68 bi-weekly ($136,631 - $179,559 annually)

 

 

Notes

This Executive Director position is located in Edmonton.
