This position is primarily responsible for assisting in preparation and presentation of the Tangerine Bank and subsidiaries quarterly and annual IFRS based local Financial Statements. This position is also responsible for presenting financials results to the local team and providing commentary on material variations from prior periods. The Senior Accountant need to assist in the preparation / review of Tangerine Bank’s BCAR return.  The Senior Accountant will report to the Manager, Financial Reporting.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Stay abreast developments in accounting standards.
  • Identify and implement the impact of new requirements on the financial statements and notes of the Bank.
  • Complete the disclosure checklist and draft note disclosures to ensure all material disclosures are made in a complete and accurate manner.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements including notes.
  • Benchmark financial statement note disclosures against industry standards.
  • Assess reasonability of the information by performing analytical reviews, completing trend analysis, providing business explanations on material variances from comparative periods reconciling information gathered from various different sources and critically evaluating the figures in-light of the accounting and reporting standards.
  • Ensure new business initiatives/developments are appropriately captured in the financial statements and notes.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual and quarterly board reports.
  • Liaison with contacts across the Bank to assist in gathering the required information.
  • Document and maintain financial statement preparation procedures.
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial reporting processes on a continuous basis.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • University or College Degree
  • Minimum 5 years of post-qualification work experience in a banking environment preparing financial or regulatory returns (could be overseas but preferably in a Canadian setting)
  • Accounting designation is a must (CA, CGA, CPA – could be overseas)
  • Extensive knowledge of IFRS (Financial Instruments (Specially IFRS-9)
  • Working knowledge of OSFI reporting requirements for banks
  • Above “intermediate level” skills in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Exceptionally strong analytical skills and a very detail-oriented nature
