What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead with Purpose: Guide 10+ agile teams in delivering digital banking capabilities with a focus on quality, speed, and scalability.

  • Drive Innovation: Partner with business and technology stakeholders to define and deliver on the platform strategy, integrating AI, cloud, and automation at scale.

  • Modernize & Transform: Help drive the transition away from legacy systems toward cutting-edge cloud-native architectures and tools.

  • Enhance Team Performance: Improve team velocity and software development lifecycle (SDLC) maturity by elevating code quality, automation, and DevSecOps practices.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate platform strategy, KPIs, and project progress to senior leaders and executives with clarity and influence.

  • Operational Excellence: Ensure platforms meet regulatory, security, and accessibility standards, while continuously optimizing system performance and reliability.

  • Mentorship & Talent Growth: Attract, retain, and develop high-performing engineering talent and foster an inclusive, innovative team culture.

What Skills do you bring?

Technical Mastery:

  • Extensive background in enterprise architecture, Java (J2EE, SpringBoot), Linux, OpenShift,  and application server management (WebSphere, IHS), with a focus on leading and guiding technical teams in these areas.

  • Experience working with and overseeing teams utilizing cloud technologies (AWS Lambda, AWS ECS Fargate) and modern development frameworks (Angular, NodeJS).

  • Highly skilled in managing teams responsible for DevSecOps tools such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, Ansible, and automation/configuration with YAML.

  • Strong track record leading teams in system integration using XML and JSON, and in managing code quality and artifacts with SonarQube and Artifactory.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver secure, scalable solutions, with proven leadership and collaboration skills.

Leadership & Soft Skills Mastery:

  • At least 6+ yrs of experience in previous people-manager roles with expertise in leading large teams (25+ direct reports)  with a focus on quality, speed, and scalability.

  • Ownership and accountability mindset – you take full accountability for delivery, and quality of projects.  You thrive on owning and understanding “the stack”.

  • Strategic and analytical thinker who challenges norms and brings fresh, forward-thinking solutions.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills – able to create and deliver Executive-ready PowerPoint slides, updates and Town Hall presentations.

  • Influential collaborator – builds bridges across teams, functions, and hierarchies.

  • Strong team player and relationship-builder with a superior ability to work both horizontally and vertically, and see the “big picture” on how different teams can work together .

  • Ability to break down silos and work with others to achieve a common goal

  • Ability to lead difficult conversations with team and give meaningful feedback with empathy and clarity.

  • Thrives under pressure – can balance multiple competing priorities in a high velocity, rapidly evolving environment  with a highly demanding workload

CORE Responsibilities:  

  • Communicate effectively with executive stakeholders to influence decision-making and report on platform strategy, performance, and innovation.

  • Lead the project delivery, stability, security, and ongoing innovation (including the use of AI tooling) of customer-facing and internal technology platforms.

  • Develop and execute platform strategies and roadmaps, ensuring alignment across technology, design, security, and business teams.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, vendors, and cross-functional partners to achieve business objectives.

  • Track, analyze, and optimize platform health, adoption, and performance metrics for continuous improvement.

  • Ensure compliance with service, security, accessibility, and regulatory standards, including effective vendor management.

  • Oversee clear documentation of business rules, technical specifications, and process flows to support transparency and operational excellence as well as accurate estimation, forecasting and project working plans.

Additional Details:

Prioritizes and supports the work of customer-facing and/or internal platforms. Tracks and maintains platform health scores as well as adoption rate. Manages the stability, accessibility, scalability, security and support innovation of the platform. Coordinates the activities of technology, design, security and marketing, to develop platform strategies, roadmaps, and execution. Manages the relationship with vendors for support, compliance, license tracking and any other needs.

  • Builds relationships with and works with stakeholders to understand the platform vision, align and deliver on the roadmap.
  • Documents business rules, functional/technical specifications, and process interpretations for assigned applications, process flows, systems, and business solutions​.
  • Analyzes platform data to drive and implement optimizations​.
  • Undertakes prioritization of work of a component or group of components that are used by customers/end users​.
  • Understands the competitive and strategic position of the organization, in order to deliver best-in-industry products​.
  • Ensures compliance with service and support agreements​ and standards.
  • Manages technical requirements e.g. APIs and other platform components with a focus on security and resilience to protect end-users.

Salary:
$121,600.00 - $211,800.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
