Location: Canada (Remote)
Salary: $130,000–$160,000 per year


Summary:
Our client is seeking a hands-on and coachable Manager of Software Development to lead a team of 8–12 developers working across diverse technologies. Reporting to the Director of Software and Data, you will drive the adoption of healthy SDLC practices, champion Agile and Kanban methodologies, and lead the transformation toward modern, cloud-native and containerized solutions. You will play a key role in mentoring the team, shaping culture, and ensuring scalable, high-quality delivery aligned with business goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Manage a team of developers and data professionals; promote accountability, encourage open communication, and support professional growth.

  • Agile & Kanban Champion: Implement Agile best practices; lead backlog grooming, sprint planning, Kanban adoption, and coach team members on modern delivery workflows.

  • SDLC Transformation: Support a culture shift toward a modern SDLC with strong CI/CD, containerization, and scalable cloud-first architecture.

  • Technical Direction: Guide development decisions involving C#, PHP, Python, VueJS, and cloud technologies (AWS preferred).

  • Cloud & Containerization: Drive heavy containerization initiatives using Docker and Kubernetes; help transition components to Python for cost-effective and scalable solutions.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the bridge between business needs and technical teams; translate requirements and foster collaboration.

  • Product Delivery & Support: Oversee release management, change review (CAB), and incident response as needed (on-call for emergencies).

  • Innovation & Problem-Solving: Encourage the team to speak up, bring ideas forward, and solve challenges with a proactive mindset.


Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in software development leadership

  • Strong grasp of Agile (Scrum) and Kanban methodologies – not just terminology, but practical coaching and application

  • Experience leading and coaching diverse technical teams (8–12 people)

  • Strong understanding of C#, PHP, VueJS, and modern Python development

  • Proficient with AWS and Azure (AWS is the primary target environment)

  • Deep understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud-native development

  • Database experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB

  • Comfortable guiding teams through change from legacy to modern systems

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to foster a team culture where people feel safe to speak up

  • Strategic thinker with a growth mindset
