In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in seamanship.
Experience operating small vessels.
Experience working on vessels.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

EDUCATION (ASSET):
Hold a Small Vessel Operator Competency Certificate recognized by Transport Canada.
Hold a Radio Operator Certificate.
Hold a training certificate for rigid hull inflatable boat operators.

EXPERIENCE (ASSET):
Experience on board a Coast Guard vessel.
Have teaching experience in adult education programs.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEED
Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard are committed to establishing and maintaining a workforce representative of the population it serves. KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of small vessels in the Canadian Coast Guard fleet, such as work barges and fast rescue boats.
Knowledge of ropes, tackle, and other equipment used on board ships and small vessels.
Knowledge of lifting equipment.
Knowledge of safe work practices.

ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to work without supervision.
Ability to use audio-visual aids.
Ability to work in a team.
Ability to develop and deliver training programs.
Ability to prepare lesson plans.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
