Position Overview

Calian is seeking an Intermediate Professional Engineer to assist our client with the facilitation of their project. This role will perform tasks in support of the Ammunition & Explosives (A&E) disposal activities.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing statements of work and statements of operational requirements for the procurement of systems, equipment and services;
  • Producing and validating technical specifications of systems, equipment and services;
  • Conducting research to produce technical options, explore feasibility of technologies, and to assess options related to A&E demilitarization technologies, methods, equipment, services and standards;
  • Performing data collection and data analysis tasks to generate reports and presentations related to disposal activities;
  • Reviewing and making recommendations on work proposals and other project documentation;
  • Analyzing technical/engineering proposals, estimating costs/risks and making recommendations;
  • Developing and assessing maintenance strategies, plans and logistics support requirements;
  • Generating and/or evaluating test plans, procedures and reports;
  • Preparing budgetary estimates for the completion of technical programs;
  • Conducting site visits to various Department of National Defence and service provider/supplier sites;
  • Developing and maintaining project schedules, and other documents to track work progress;
  • Conducting presentations to articulate project requirements to stakeholders and management;
  • Participating in planning of meetings and drafting meeting minutes;
  • Performing technical reviews and producing technical reports; and
  • Providing project engineering services such as planning, coordinating and executing projects according to various constraints and requirements.

Qualifications

  • Must have a post-secondary degree in one of the following Engineering disciplines: Mechanical/Material; Industrial; Electrical; or Civil/Structural
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience, within the last 5 years in developing project/system/equipment requirements or preparing technical specifications
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience, within the last 5 years in: conducting technical/engineering assessments; writing technical/engineering reports; or evaluating research studies
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience, within the last 5 years in: Inputting and conducting data collection activities; Conducting data analysis; and Developing reports and dashboards based on numerical data analysis

Additional Requirements

  • Must have experience working on the technical requirements, design/ installation/commissioning of industrial equipment related to Ammunition and Explosives (A&E) destruction and demilitarization. E.g. thermal treatment units, pollution abatement system metal sorter and crusher, etc
  • Must have experience working on the processes of demilitarization and disposal of Ammunition and Explosives (A&E)
  • Must have experience working on A&E disposal requirements with at least two (2) of the following activities: Transportation ; Destruction technologies; Environmental effects; Permits/licences/certification application; Laws/regulations
  • Must be bilingual (fluent in English and French) with similar certifications as the Qualification Standards in Relation to Official Languages
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some of the area and overnight travel may be expected
  • Must be eligible to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Secret level
