Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Data Engineer / Analytics Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have recent industry experience in delivering analytics solutions with a strong focus on IT and business performance metrics. This role is responsible for end-to-end data operations, from ingestion and modeling to quality assurance and visualization, leveraging modern tools and techniques across the Microsoft ecosystem and enterprise platforms.

Roles and Responsibilities

Data Ingestion:

  • Ingest relational, structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data from on-premise, cloud, external, document, and other sources.
  • Develop and monitor scalable data ingestion streams with robust error handling and performance optimization.
  • Integrate APIs and other data services to automate and streamline ingestion processes.

Data Modelling:

  • Design logical and optimized data models, including star schemas, to support high-performance analytics and reporting.
  • Centralize and manage business rules, calculations, derivations, table relationships, and transformations to deliver scalable analytics solutions.
  • Blend data from multiple sources into a unified and meaningful context for business intelligence.
  • Implement and maintain reusable dataflows using Power Query (M).

Data Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness at both entity and attribute levels.
  • Establish data lineage and enforce standardization of data formats across ingestion streams.
  • Apply performance tuning techniques such as aggregations, incremental refresh, and query folding for optimal efficiency.

Analytics Delivery:

  • Develop interactive and visually compelling dashboards tailored to executive and operational users.
  • Implement row-level security and manage user access and workspace permissions in Power BI Service.
  • Create complex DAX measures, calculated tables, and KPIs to support dynamic analytics needs.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Recent industry experience working with core IT services metrics and business performance measures.
  • Proven working knowledge in analytics delivery and analytics technologies, with a strong business understanding.
  • Advanced SQL capabilities including stored procedures and complex data transformations.
  • Advanced API integration skills for automated data ingestion from third-party services.
  • Expertise in Power Query (M) for data cleansing, transformation, and building reusable, standardized dataflows.
  • Deep experience designing optimized data models and star schemas for fast and scalable reporting.
  • Advanced DAX knowledge to support dynamic and customized reporting needs.
  • Proficient in Power BI development, including implementing row-level security, managing workspace permissions, and fine-tuning performance.
  • Skilled in developing executive dashboards and visualizations aligned with business KPIs and strategic goals.
  • Familiarity with performance tuning techniques such as aggregations, incremental refresh, and query folding.
  • Hands-on experience with ServiceNow (SNOW), Dynatrace, and Azure DevOps (AzDO).
  • Competent with the full Microsoft 365 suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Teams.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, or a related field.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with enterprise cloud data tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Synapse, AWS Glue).
  • Knowledge of data governance, compliance, and metadata management frameworks.
  • Exposure to Agile or DevOps environments with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
