In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the Audit Committee and operational leaders to build trust and drive value. You will lead the function with a fresh perspective, ensuring that governance and internal controls support the university’s mission while fostering a collaborative culture across all departments.

What’s in it for You
This is a career-defining chance to build and mentor a growing team while shaping the future of the audit function. You will have high visibility, reporting directly to a Board and working under a President with deep expertise in Risk. The organization values innovation and collaboration, offering a supportive environment where you can learn on the job and apply your public sector experience to new challenges.

Your Responsibilities

  • You’ll lead, coach, and expand the Internal Audit team, setting the tone for a department focused on partnership and quality.

  • You’ll design and execute a risk-based Internal Audit Plan that prioritizes operational efficiency and strategic alignment.

  • You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to the Board and Audit Committee, presenting complex findings with clarity and confidence.

  • You’ll champion a "Modern Auditor" approach, identifying areas for improvement that balance risk management with process speed.

  • You’ll build strong relationships across diverse departments, ensuring audit activities are understood and valued.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of finance experience, including 5+ years of management experience in internal or external audit.

  • Professional designation (CPA, CIA, CA, CMA, CGA) in good standing is required.

  • Proven experience within the public sector, education, or similar complex, unionized environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to present articulately to Boards and Audit Committees.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a history of building trust and resolving conflicts in a large organization.
