The Audit & Regulatory Interactions Team (ARI) acts as a central point of contact for Technology & Operations (T&O) audit and regulatory interactions by partnering with key line of business points to provide direction and guidance related to internal and external audits and examinations, ensuring awareness and mitigation of potential areas of risk. The ARI Team also provides T&O insights and guidance on trends and themes of regulatory importance.

MANDATE

This role is heavily focused on management of T&O regulatory exams and audits.  The Senior Manager will collaborate with all three lines of defense across T&O (Enterprise/Canada, U.S., and International jurisdictions) to provide support and guidance on exams and audits. This will involve leading pre-readiness/debrief sessions, performing deep dive reviews and providing ongoing constructive feedback/challenge regarding materials documents to be submitted to regulators to ensure accurate, consistent, and high materials are delivered for final exam and audit submissions. Other tasks associated with this role include managing audit and exam calendars, providing centralized executive and governance level insights reporting, participating in knowledge sharing exercises, and aligning interaction activities with testing and readiness assessments. 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assists the ARI team and the broader corporate risk functions in executing against a defined interaction model related to T&O audits, exams, remediation and retest activities.
  • Oversees and reviews pre-exam activities such as the coordination of documentation, completion of information asks and coordination of exam preparation meetings.
  • Facilitates gathering of regulatory and audit deliverables.
  • Leads internal efforts, including recommendations and follow-ups to compile required documentation to support examiner and audit meetings.
  • Provides Director, ARI Technology and other key stakeholders with ongoing updates/status of exams and audits, including any issues.
  • Facilitates meetings with the remediation teams and assists in drafting management responses for regulatory and audit findings, as necessary. 
  • Tracks and reports any examination remediation activities to facilitate regulatory updates.
  • Reviews results of exams, tracking any noted themes and trends that can be applied across T&O.
  • Prepares and provides updates, as required, to applicable steering committees, regulators, Corporate Support Areas and risk management committees/forums.
  • Continuously works to establish a culture of understanding the purpose behind regulatory and audit directed decisions and expectations. 
  • Assists on supplemental projects and activities as needed (e.g. creation of internal audit and exam playbooks and templates).

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge:

  • Possesses a university degree/college diploma in related discipline(s) or equivalent work experience, and/or 8-10 years experience in Regulatory Compliance and/or Risk Management.
  • Experience leading or assisting with examinations.
  • Experience assisting with regulatory remediation activities.
  • Solid knowledge of the banking industry’s risk types.
  • Solid knowledge of banking policies and procedures in relation to internal controls, risk and compliance.
  • Solid understanding of banking legal and managerial organizational structure and regulatory implications.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, as well as maintenance of Spotfire reporting.

Salary:
$84,000.00 - $156,000.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
