The Ministry of Municipal Affairs assists municipalities in providing well-managed, collaborative, and accountable local government to Albertans. Our main responsibilities are:
• Funding supports for municipalities.
• A system that strives to ensure appropriate safety standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings and equipment.
• Protections for new home buyers and required licensing for home builders.
• Province-wide support for access to public library services for Albertans.
• Management of about 2.6 million acres of public land in the province's three Special Areas.
• Independent review and decisions on local matters by the Land and Property Rights Tribunal.

The Information Services Team is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Analyst to play a key role in advancing our data strategy. This pivotal position will leverage deep analytical expertise to interpret complex data sets, provide actionable insights, and support strategic, evidence-based decision-making across the ministry.
The successful candidate will bring advanced proficiency in data analysis tools, exceptional problem-solving capabilities, and strong communication skills to clearly convey insights to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
Key Responsibilities:
• Business Intelligence & Data Management: develop and implement strategies to enhance the ministry’s data infrastructure, ensure data quality, integrity, and security in alignment with Government of Alberta policies and standards.
• Data Analytics & Reporting: conduct advanced data analysis and performance measurement, design and deliver interactive dashboards and reports to support operational and strategic goals.
• Project Management & Leadership: lead cross-functional data projects from planning through implementation, mentor junior analysts and facilitate working groups to establish data standards and optimize reporting processes.
• Communication & Training: deliver engaging training sessions, presentations, and knowledge-sharing initiatives, translate complex analytical findings into clear, impactful insights for a range of stakeholders.

University degree in Business Intelligence, Computer Science/Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Accounting/Business or Public Administration, supplemented by four years related experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered based on:
• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets:
• Stakeholder and Sector Knowledge: Strong understanding of key municipal stakeholders and comprehensive knowledge of data relevant to municipal operations and service delivery.
• Financial and Accounting Knowledge: General knowledge of the structure and components of municipal financial statements, as well as an understanding of standard accounting practices and functions.
• Technical and Analytical Expertise: Proficient in advanced statistical techniques and experienced in using tools such as SAS, Power BI, and Excel to perform in-depth data analysis and produce meaningful visualizations. Skilled in developing end-to-end data solutions, including extracting and manipulating data from enterprise databases using Python, SQL, and VBA.
• Policy, Research, and Evaluation Expertise: In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and strategic priorities within the Ministry, combined with applied experience in research methodologies, systems thinking, change management, and evaluation frameworks. Adept at translating complex policy and research findings into actionable insights to support evidence-informed decision-making and strategic planning.
