Economic Strategy Division
The Economic Strategy Division is focused on ensuring strategies and related policies are developed with a broad economic lens and line of sight to economic growth and job creation. The division leverages stakeholder intelligence, robust economic principles and advanced data analytics to formulate effective strategies that support job creating investments in Alberta.
Industry Competitiveness and Policy Unit
The Industry Competitiveness and Policy Unit contributes to the development of a competitive economic environment to support industry growth and diversification. This includes developing policies, strategies, and initiatives focused on supporting and growing Alberta's primary, enabling, and nascent industries in order to create jobs, attract investment, and diversify the economy.

Reporting to the Manager of Industry Policy, the Policy Analyst supports the development of strategies and policy projects, with a focus on Department priorities and mandate items to ensure Alberta remains a highly competitive destination for job-attracting investment.

Required Competencies:
University graduation in political science, public administration, economics, social sciences, or in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
The position requires the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Excellent ability to conduct research and collect data and information using a variety of resources to undertake effective policy analysis.
• Strong ability to generate analysis using quantitative and qualitative data and apply results to program policy.
• Ability to think conceptually and critically to generate well-analyzed and realistic policy options and recommendations on complex issues.
• Knowledge of policy and program development frameworks, strategic planning, and experience in policy and program assessment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with a variety of audiences.
• Experience preparing and providing options analysis, reports, briefings, and presentations.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse teams in developing sector strategies, analyses, or policy and program development.
• Good understanding of economic concepts..
• Experience in strong relationship building and some stakeholder engagement.
Assets:
• Knowledge of public/non-profit programs related to economic, industry, and business development.
• Understanding of key issues that face Alberta's industries and supply chains, and factors that drive economic development and industry competitiveness in Alberta.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and policies at the federal, provincial, and municipal level that impact the industrial economy.
• Project management knowledge and experience.

We are currently hiring for two full-time positions: one permanent and one temporary, with the temporary position available until June 2027. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (36.25 hours/week).
Work location is in Edmonton.
