We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to lead the development of an individual-level microsimulation model to support health system capacity planning, with a particular focus on seniors and continuing care services.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in health analytics, simulation modeling, and interdisciplinary collaboration, who is passionate about using data to inform health policy and service planning.
Design, build, and maintain microsimulation or agent-based models representing patient flows through various health and long-term care settings
Use open-source simulation frameworks (e.g., SimPy, mesa, simpyLC in Python; OpenM++, SimYouLate, SimPaths in R) to implement models
Integrate demographic, clinical, and pathway data to simulate life-course transitions of older adults through home care, inpatient, and community-based services
Conduct model validation, calibration, and sensitivity analyses to ensure accuracy and policy relevance
Perform scenario analysis to evaluate the impact of different care policies or resource allocation strategies
Work closely with clinicians, policy analysts, and data scientists to ensure the model is grounded in real-world data
Communicate results through clear visualizations, reports, and briefings for technical and non-technical stakeholders
Maintain clear documentation and version control of code, model logic, and parameters
5+ years of experience in health systems research, public health analytics, or health data science
Proven experience building and maintaining microsimulation or agent-based models
Proficiency in Python or R, and experience using simulation frameworks such as SimPy, mesa, OpenM++, or similar
Deep understanding of healthcare system structure, especially long-term and seniors’ care
Strong background in quantitative methods, including model validation and sensitivity testing
Ability to translate technical outputs into actionable insights and policy implications
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Experience working in public sector, healthcare consulting, or academic health policy research
Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, ggplot2, matplotlib)
Experience working in interdisciplinary research environments
