As a Library Security Guard, physical ability is essential as you will be moving around your entire shift, patrolling environments and safeguarding people around you in a Library setting

Responsibilities for Library Security Guard

  • Provide a visible security presence, control access to restricted areas, and monitor all floors, entrances, and Skywalk
  • Respond quickly and professionally to incidents, emergencies, alarms, and potential threats
  • Conduct regular patrols (interior/exterior) to deter suspicious activity and address tenant or visitor concerns
  • Operate security equipment, including CCTV, alarms, and metal detection gates; ensure all systems are functioning properly
  • Maintain clear, calm communication with the public and staff, offering site information and directions as needed
  • De-escalate conflicts using trauma-informed, culturally aware approaches; collaborate with library staff, Crisis Workers, and Community Safety Hosts to foster a safe, welcoming environment
  • Enforce policies, remove unauthorized individuals, and assist law enforcement as required
  • Complete incident reports, maintain detailed activity logs, and follow opening/closing procedures for the site

Qualifications for Library Security Guard

    • Legally authorized to work in Canada
    • Valid Manitoba Security Guard License
    • First Aid certification (asset)
    • Positive attitude with a professional appearance
    • Physically and mentally fit; able to stand and walk for the entire shift
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Comfortable using technology and security equipment
    • Tactical experience (asset)
