The Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services is building a more resilient and sustainable health care system that can support Albertans getting care when and where they need it, while responding to system-wide health challenges, improving health outcomes and maintaining fiscal responsibility. The ministry supports Albertans’ health and well-being throughout their lives by protecting public health and promoting wellness; coordinating and delivering safe, person-centered, quality health services; planning capital infrastructure; supporting innovative information management and technologies; regulating health care; and funding the health system.

Role Responsibilities

We are seeking a Health System Analyst who thrives in data environments and can navigate complex datasets to produce actionable insights. You will play a vital role in supporting internal stakeholders and external partners, including Alberta Health Services, Researchers, and National health agencies.

This is your chance to contribute to health care improvement across Alberta – through high-quality data extraction, analysis, and collaboration on research and planning initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consult with internal and external data requestors to clarify data needs, advise on administrative health data and recommend methodologically sound solutions.
  • Extract, transform, and de-identify data using tools such as SAS, SQL, R, and Python, ensuring compliance with privacy legislation.
  • Collaborate with virtual teams, data units, and research groups to support high-impact projects and improve data access processes.
  • Perform quality assurance, conduct basic statistical analysis, and create reports or visualizations as needed.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in user acceptance testing and development of new data views to streamline future data access.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills

University graduation in a related field (i.e. Science, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health informatics, Health Sciences, Medical humanities or Public Health) plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

  • Proficiency in a range of data and analysis tools, including SAS, SQL, R, Python, SPSS, GIS software, graphic and data visualization packages, and version control tools such as Bitbucket or GIT.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with ability to explain complex data concepts to a diverse audience.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring team members and contributing to internal knowledge sharing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large, diverse projects, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent organizing skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary or cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with internal and external data sources to achieve project objectives.
  • Public health research experience is considered a strong asset.

We are hiring for one permanent full-time position.

Working hours are 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Office location is ATB Place North, Edmonton, AB.
