Position Overview

Calian Health is seeking a part-time Pulmonary Function Technologist (1 half day per week) with interest and experience in providing outpatient addictions services. As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, you would provide addictions counselling services to Canadian Armed Forces members in their exclusive outpatient clinic located on Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, BC.

Responsibilities

The required tasks for this occupational group include the following:

  1. provide pulmonary function testing services in accordance with Certified Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist standards of practice established by the Board of Registration of Pulmonary Function Technologists of Canada;
  2. perform pulmonary function studies based on a requisition received from a physician;
  3. obtain patient medical history information pertinent to the interpretation of pulmonary function test results;
  4. prepare patients for pulmonary function testing by explaining the procedure;
  5. perform pulmonary function testing ranging from basic spirometry through to complete comprehensive assessments including: body plethysmography , bronchial challenge testing (pre and post VentolinTM), lung diffusion capacity test, expiratory nitrous oxide (Nioxx) testing, and methacholine challenge testing;
  6. provide routine maintenance and calibration of pulmonary function testing equipment, report any issue immediately; also notify MCS staff of any low supply of materials or gases for re-order;
  7. assist with Canadian Forces Health Information System (CFHIS) and AUMB database entry;
  8. language of work may be French and/or English, depending on geographic location; and
  9. other associated tasks relevant to this occupational group.

Qualifications

All Pulmonary Function Technologists will hold, as a minimum:

  1. Certified Registration as a Cardio-Pulmonary Function Technologist with the Board of Registration of Pulmonary Function Technologists of Canada; and
  2. Certified Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists in the province of employment.

  • You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
