Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS) is the province’s not-for-profit provider of security, safety, training, and identification services. Responsible to the Site Manager, our Senior Site Supervisor plays a key role in the operational success of our contract; responsible for leading and coaching people, delivering high level customer experience and managing all aspects of our commitment to our client.


    THE ROLE

    Position: Senior Site Supervisor
    Competition Number: CNS 2025-06-17
    Location: HMC Dockyard, Halifax
    Reports to: MARLANT Site Manager

    Working Hours: 0700-1500 Monday-Friday (some weekend and/or overtime will be required/necessary)
    Hourly Wage: $32.30 per hour

    Closing Date: 8th July 2025


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Duties include, but are not limited to:

     

    • Be knowledgeable of, or be willing to learn, Government Security Policy, National Defence Security Orders and Directives, DND Security Orders and all other pertinent DND orders or directives; 
    • Be knowledgeable of, or be willing to learn, provincial and federal legislation that may impact operations, including:
      • Nova Scotia Labour Act
      • Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act
      • Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
      • Human Rights Act
      • Labour Standards Code
      • Private Investigator and Private Guard Regulations
      • Workers’ Compensation Act


    • Operational control of all Commissionaires including; initial interview and briefing, assignment to site and post, arrangements for initial on-the-job-training (OJT), initiating specialised training and ensure first-aid training is up to date.
    • Effectively coach, motivate and provide feedback when necessary
    • Resolving/addressing all complaints in a timely, professional, and satisfactory manner
    • Conducting disciplinary investigations and managing disciplinary processes as required 
    • Ensure OH&S monthly reports are completed and submitted
    • Conduct security investigations as required, first level review of all incidents and incident reports
    • Implement Shift Scheduling as required using ONWATCH
    • Approving staff hours using ONWATCH
    • Administrative control of gate records, incidents, and security infraction reports
    • Ensure SWI, PPM and dress standards are adhered to
    • Maintain coordination and control over all Keys, Passes and Logs
    • Provide direction, assistance and leadership during emergencies
    • Ensure escort duties, security checks and security patrols are carried out IAW established client SOP’s and CNS' SWI's
    • Order supplies, equipment and CNS clothing for all MARLANT (CFB Halifax) staff 
    • Conduct after hour responses as required

    Eligibility Requirements

     

    Candidates must:

    • Be aged 19 or older;
    • Be legally eligible to work in Canada;
    • Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted;
    • Be able to provide fingerprints and complete a criminal record check;
    • Be eligible to apply for, and attain, Government of Canada secret security clearance;
    • Be able to communicate effectively in English (the ability to work in both official languages would be considered an asset).

     

    Qualifications and Skills
    The incumbent must possess the following experience, skills, and attributes:

     

    • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgement and decision making in emergency situations
    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt to changing situations
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills
    • Proven ability to lead a team focused on the common goal of providing superior service to the client
    • Computer proficiency using MS Suite software
    • Superior attention to detail
    • Due to the scheduled hours, reliable transportation is required
    • Valid driver’s license required and willingness to complete DND 404 accreditation
