This key leadership position will be responsible for overall Legal support for xScale business, global leadership and co-ordination of the core (dedicated) and extended team, stakeholder management & program delivery of xScale JVs that meet Equinix's strategic and financial goals, governance requirements & hyperscale customer experience. It is in essence a general counsel remit for our xScale business within the wider Equinix organization.
The role reports to SVP, Legal & Deputy GC and has a dotted line reporting line to the MD, xScale.
Job Responsibilities
Leadership & Engagement
Responsible for the cross-functional co-ordination within Legal to implement and support xScale initiatives globally, and the ongoing operation of the xScale business
Develop strategic planning process for xScale, working with the senior leadership team and other key leaders throughout Equinix
Act as trusted advisor to the MD xScale business and her leadership team
Foster relationships with xScale external investor partners/banking syndicates
Ensure xScale planning and business development activities are communicated
Liaise with colleagues globally and coordinate activities across various functions and stakeholders
Act and advocate as spokesperson for progress, opportunities, challenge, for xScale support
Process Management
Establish design processes, procedures, budget, resource requirements, and deliverables
Lead Legal through the development and management of the xScale annual operating plan
Support program delivery of JVs and on-going management and optimization across different models
Ensure xScale adherence to governance requirements
Provide expert counsel on product development, customer (lease) negotiations and customer delivery and experience
Oversee training and development of Legal xScale team and facilitate making effective staffing decisions
Reporting and Analysis
Ensure regular and effective communication across the core and extended Legal teams
Identify opportunities/potential risks to the Equinix business; work closely with internal stakeholders to raise awareness of risks and implement and drive initiatives and guidance
Track and report KPIs
Conduct presentations, train and educate the Legal team and relevant business teams
Report on xScale global initiatives regularly to SVP, Legal & Deputy GC
Job Qualifications
10+ years PQE lawyer preferred with solid law firm experience
Some in house experience (either as a full-time role or by way of secondment experience)
Experience working in a corporate finance or an investment business environment, ideally in relation to the (hyperscale) data center or related industry sectors, with a strong understanding of complex business structures, funding structures, JVs and related M&A activity and solid working knowledge of related finance concepts
Experience working in an international business environment, and comfortable operating around the globe
Strong leadership skills in both motivating a team and delivery on team objectives as a unified team with one voice
Ability to build and maintain strong business connections with relevant senior stakeholders.
