Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS) is looking for someone to join our supervisory team as a Shift Supervisor with our RCMP contract. The Shift Supervisor oversees the shift security detail and assists with duties when on shift.

CNS Supervisors play a key role in the operational success of our contract; responsible for leading shift, our people, delivering high level customer experience and managing all aspects of our commitment to our client. This includes the supervision of personnel, the administrative management of the site, discipline, dress and deportment, monitoring morale and client communications. The successful candidates will form a supervisory team that will deliver operational support to our client and will be a key part of the success of this longstanding and valued contract.

THE ROLE
Position: Shift Supervisor 

Competition Number: CNS 2025-6-09
Reports to: Site Supervisor
Responsible For: Supervision, coaching, and administration of shift personnel

Working Hours: Rotating 12 hr shifts, 0530-1730 and 1730-0530

Wage: $21.58 per hour

Closing Date: June 25, 2025


Duties and Responsibilities:

While duties vary by assignment, the responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising the day-to-day operation of respective shifts including: shift briefings and pre-shift and in-shift inspections.
  • inspecting of each shift before shift commencement and training of new Commissionaires
  • Assigning duties and shifts of the site Security Detail and ensuring OnWatch scheduling program is maintained.
  • Monitoring satisfaction of services through regular visits to all posts throughout the shift
  • Maintaining physical security of the site and implementing required security measures by our client.
  • Conducting security patrols/inspections of the site’s interior and perimeter areas (in all weather conditions)
  • Conduct Site Safety and Security Orientation to visitors and third-party contractors.
  • Assisting staff, general public and controlling visitor access, ensuring compliance to site procedures
  • Conducting random personnel baggage and vehicle searches 
  • Monitoring and controlling access to Restricted Areas
  • Performing associated clerical and administrative requirements in accordance with RCMP operating policies
  • Monitoring of RCMP surveillance systems
  • Responding to emergency situations: in accordance with the site Emergency Response Plan
  • Responding to all First Aid situations as and when required
  • Responding to security breaches or incidents in accordance with RCMP policies 
  • Ensuring the appropriate level of staffing so that CNS can meet the service level targets of the client.
  • Effectively coach, motivate, discipline and provide feedback when necessary.
  • Understand Occupational Health and Security regulations as they apply to security workings at RCMP locations
  • Managing and accounting for stores and equipment allotted to CMRE's during their shifts
  • Completing administrative and clerical duties as required


 Candidates must: 

  • Be aged 19 or older.
  • Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.
  • Be eligible to apply for, and pass.
    • Government of Canada Enhanced Reliability
    • Emergency First Aid & CPR
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English.


Qualifications and Skills


The incumbent must demonstrate experience with the following key qualifications, skills, and attributes:

  • Be qualified in, or have the ability to pass, CNS advanced leadership/management training courses (CSC 1 and 2)
  • Comfortable in use of computers and computer-based applications
  • Possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Possess excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgement and decision making during emergency or high stress situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt to changing situations.
  • Highly professional and discreet
  • Excellent coaching, negotiating, and mentoring abilities.
  • Experience in On-Watch application considered an asset.
