Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS) is at the forefront of providing security services throughout the province and is seeking a Training Coordinator to support our Training team.  The Training Coordinator is responsible for the scheduling and administration of the training function, supporting both internal employees and external clients.


Based out of our Head Office in Bedford, you will have exemplary time management skills and the ability to be proactive in anticipating the needs of the training department. Our Training Department plays an integral role in providing qualified Security Officers, Supervisors and specially trained Commissionaires to our operations team, as well as managing a revenue stream by providing bespoke training courses to our clients. As this is a highly visible and key department in the CNS brand, we're looking for you to be collaborative, professional, highly adaptable, and be able to work independently with a high level of attention to detail.

Training Administration

  • Facilitate the organization and scheduling of internal and external courses offered by CNS
  • Create and maintain an annual training schedule as directed by the Training & Development Manager
  • Liaise with other service providers of training as required
  • Act as the first point-of-contact for people attending courses
  • Promote the training program through collaborative relationships across all of CNS
    • Support Regional/District and Site Managers/Supervisors to ensure that their staff are working towards training requirement compliance, including but not limited to CNS courses: First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, WHMIS, Use of Force and Persons with Security Responsibilities
    • Support the instructors in ensuring that online training credentials and evaluation forms are accurately created and logged, maintaining detailed records using CNS’s HR platform (BambooHR), as well as MS Office Suite
    • Support the instructors in completing and distributing training certificates
    • Liaise with instructors to communicate organizational needs/areas requiring support
  • Liaise with the financial team to enable external clients to pay for courses (through invoices and other methods)
  • Create/approve training shifts for Commissionaires to allow them to be paid for their training
  • Collate and communicate CNS training feedback to the Training & Development Manager
  • Act as the Training & Development Manager as required


Facilitation 

  • Occasionally instruct CNS-specific course materials (with additional training provided if necessary)
  • Continually improve CNS’s training course offering, including reviews of current course content/curriculum and developing new training resources
  • Occasional travel is required for training, exercises, or coordination meetings. 


Education and Knowledge

i.    Education: (Minimum Required): University degree (business preferred) or an acceptable equivalent of education and experience.

ii.    Certifications: (If applicable): Be able to complete a successful criminal records check; hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License, and have access to a reliable vehicle OR access to reliable means of transportation; Be able to apply for and obtain a Government of Canada reliability level security clearance

iii.    Skills and Abilities: (Minimum Required) 
•    Able to communicate effectively in English (the ability to work in both official languages would be considered an asset)
•    Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
•    Superior project management skills
•    Able to work effectively over various mediums (i.e. in-person, virtual, offsite)
•    Able to work effectively as part of a team
•    Able to successfully adapt to changing priorities 
•    Superior attention to detail in creating, organizing and managing robust recordkeeping databases
•    Ability to effectively deliver course material in an instructional capacity, as required

iv.    Professional/Technical Knowledge: 
•    Experience as a Training Coordinator would be considered an asset 
•    Experience with a modern Learning Management System (LMS) or applications, with focus on adult learning
•    Background/experience in Business Administration
•    Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an administration role
•    A solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Word etc.)
