The Community Initiatives Support (CIS) provides leadership and oversight of Alberta’s approach to community-based crime prevention, including building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, and developing and managing grant programs to support programs and services that aim to reduce crime and address social disorder in the province. The Unit is responsible for the Alberta Security Infrastructure Program, the Alberta Crime Prevention Grant, and community-based funding awarded under the Gun and Gang Violence Action Fund. 

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Community Safety Grants, the Senior Grant Advisor is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with crime prevention and community safety stakeholders and supporting the effective administration of grants and other community-based initiatives. This role plays a key part in supporting applicants, managing adjudication processes, and ensuring accountability and compliance with program guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
•    Contribute to the development of grant guidelines, application forms, and communication materials.
•    Respond to public inquiries and support applicants in understanding eligibility and application processes.
•    Lead the administration of grant programs, including intake, adjudication, and reporting.
•    Make funding recommendations and advise on program design and policy improvements.
•    Build and maintain strong relationships with funded organizations and community stakeholders.
•    Review final reports to ensure compliance with program requirements.
•    Collaborate with cross-ministry partners, law enforcement, and non-profit organizations.
•    Liaise with Technology and Innovation to support ongoing development and maintenance of the unit’s grant management system.
•    Support the Community Initiative Supports (CIS) Unit in achieving business plan and operational goals.
•    Limited travel may be required to engage with stakeholders and grant recipients.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree (4 years)  in related field plus four (4) years of relevant experience is required.

Equivalency:
•    Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
       *1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 
       *1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Required:
•    Experience in grant or contract management. 
•    Experience developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Assets:
•    Experience developing grant and program policy and guidelines.
•    Experience budgeting, financial tracking and reporting.
•    Knowledge of government contract and grant management best practices, including the Ministerial Grants Regulation within the 
     Government Organization Act. 
•    Knowledge or experience in negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution to work effectively with stakeholders. 
•    Knowledge or experience in community safety and well-being programs and services concepts, programs and services. 
•    Valid Class 5 Driver's License
