As part of DCC’s ongoing efforts to recruit a diverse workforce, the National Student Program offers students a 2–4-month work experience term. This is a great opportunity for students to be exposed to a work environment and to expand their skills.
What You Can Expect
You will build a network of colleagues in a variety of disciplines who are passionate about the work they do and will lead and mentor you in a high-performing environment. Successful candidates will gain office experience and may support in the following tasks:
Primary Responsibilities (Storage Facility Cleanup & Organization)
· Conduct an inventory assessment of basement storage.
· Organize and categorize stored items based on retention policies.
· Coordinate with OCT on communications to SMG to ensure alignment on removal or disposal of outdated, redundant, or unneeded materials.
· Document and map out a new indexing structure for easy retrieval of items in the future.
Additional Responsibilities (Corporate Support & Administrative Assistance)
Supply Room, Basement storage & Office Organization:
· Maintain inventory of office supplies, restock as needed, and optimize storage for efficiency.
· Support workspace reorganization efforts
Meeting & Event Coordination:
· Assist in logistical preparations for internal meetings, corporate forums, and company events where applicable
· Prepare meeting materials, set up conference rooms, and handle basic A/V setup.
· Support post-event clean-up and documentation.
Records & Document Management:
· Assist with removal, scanning, filing, and organizing documents for improved accessibility.
· Support compliance with record retention policies.
Corporate Services Support:
· Provide ad-hoc assistance to general corporate services as needed.
· Support front-desk duties during peak periods (if applicable).
Communication team support:
· Create an archive page, organized by FY, for back issues of the Friday Report.
· This involves creating a page on the back end of the system with lists of issues and adding hyperlinks to the actual files.
· The task may be repetitive, so it is suggested to break it up into a couple of hours each day.
· There are a total of 1708 files to manually link (854 in each language).
IT team support
· Initiative to prepare IT related Standard operating procedures. The activity is to convert current documentation to a standard format for various areas of IT functions. We can use the student for some of that work. I will also have requirements to support asset management data entry activities once the new IT service management tool is onboarded.
· Enter safety data into E1 that would save everyone else time and improve the accuracy of safety reports on an ongoing basis
Your salary
The remuneration for post-secondary students will align with the pay rates established by the Government of Canada’s Treasury Board guidelines. Compensation will be determined by the student's academic level and experience.
Hourly pay scale for post-secondary students: $19.50-$27.50/hr. For detailed information, please refer to the Treasury Board student salary ranges.

To begin a career with Defence Construction Canada (DCC), you must be a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident of Canada. As a condition of employment with DCC, a minimum reliability security status clearance is required and some roles may require secret security status clearance.
DCC is responsible for the Personnel Security Clearance process. Typically to be eligible for a "Reliability" clearance, you must have five years of verifiable background information and to be eligible for a "Secret" clearance, you must have 10 years of verifiable background information. The process usually involves reference inquiries, verification of qualifications, criminal records checks, and credit checks (as required) and may require fingerprints. The appropriate security clearance is a condition of employment and it is the candidate’s or employee’s responsibility to ensure, they are able to obtain and maintain their required security level clearance to begin or continue their employment with DCC. Failure to obtain or maintain, the appropriate level of security clearance means either the candidate or employee will not receive a job offer, the conditional offer will be rendered null and void or their employment will be terminated with cause.
