The Ministry of Children and Family Services funds programs and services to support vulnerable children, youth, families, and individuals to live safely and succeed in Alberta. This includes providing services and resources to protect children and youth from abuse and neglect, and effectively address harm that has placed them in need of intervention. Mentoring and support services are available to youth transitioning into healthy, productive adults. The ministry also invests in community-based groups that support prevention and early intervention services such as Family Resource Networks, youth emergency shelters as well as programs that raise awareness and help respond to family violence, sexual violence, and abuse.

Role Responsibilities

Are you passionate about creating meaningful change through human-centered design? Join our dynamic Prevention of Family Violence and Abuse Branch as a Service Design Coordinator, where you’ll lead the development of innovative service solutions that enhance client and community outcomes. Your expertise will help shape the delivery of critical family and sexual violence prevention programs across Alberta, ensuring services are accessible, effective, and centered around the needs of those we serve.

Reporting to the Manager, Provincial Program Delivery, this position critical role in ensuring the client outcomes, supports timely and accurate briefings on current and emerging projects, effectively communicates with the team, and incorporates input from all affected program areas.

Key responsibilities include:

•    User-Centered Research & Mapping: Lead user and stakeholder engagement through interviews, workshops, surveys, and co-design sessions to develop
     service blueprints, journey maps, and personas. Identify pain points and opportunities for innovation using both qualitative and quantitative data to inform
     end-to-end service improvement.

•    Design & Implementation of Service Solutions: Develop, prototype, and test innovative service models that reflect user needs and support change
     management. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new processes and solutions into existing operations, ensuring alignment with program
     goals and policy directions.

•    Client Issue Management & Stakeholder Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ministry staff, and service delivery partners.
      Address emerging issues with a customer-focused approach, anticipate future service needs, and offer actionable recommendations that align with
      ministry objectives.

•    Project & Policy Coordination: Support the branch in developing policy and research materials by coordinating cross-unit efforts and managing timely
     responses through systems like the Action Request System (ARTS). Ensure materials and correspondence meet quality standards and reflect
     organizational priorities.
     

•    Performance Evaluation & Continuous Improvement: Monitor and analyze service performance using key indicators to support strategic decision-making.
     Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by refining design practices, sharing insights across the branch, and maintaining effective records 
     management and documentation.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standard: University graduation in a related field (communications, social sciences, administration, business, etc.); no experience required; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalencies: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of:
•    One year of experience for one year of education; or
•    One year of education for one year of experience.


Assets:
•    In-depth Knowledge of Government and Ministry Operations: Comprehensive understanding of government protocols, PFVA branch programs,
      legislation, policies, and client service delivery models, along with familiarity with funded programs across the human services sector.

•    Service Design & Client Mapping Expertise: Strong knowledge of human-centered design methodologies, client/user journey mapping, and service
     design tools to support evidence-informed program development.

•    Exceptional Communication and Editorial Skills: Proven ability to write and edit complex content in plain language, develop clear correspondence,
     and effectively communicate with diverse audiences, including senior leadership and external stakeholders.

•    Strong Analytical and Strategic Thinking: Advanced conceptual, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex ideas,
     anticipate emerging issues, and develop actionable, long-term solutions.

•    Excellent Organizational and Time Management Skills: Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with
      shifting priorities and short timelines, while maintaining high-quality outputs.

•    Political Acumen and Client-Centered Approach: Ability to navigate politically sensitive issues with neutrality and professionalism, while prioritizing
      client needs and managing high-level stakeholder communications (e.g., Minister, ADM).

•    Proficient in Relevant Technologies: High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe tools, SharePoint,
      Internet research, and ministry-specific systems like ARTS.

•    Collaborative and Independent Work Skills: Strong relationship-building and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently, exercise sound
      judgment, and contribute to cross-functional initiatives and client-focused problem-solving.

Hours of Work: This position works Monday to Friday, 36.25-hours a week.
