Your Opportunity

As a Construction Coordinator, you will be working as a member of our Construction Administration Team within Stantec’s Transportation Business Center in Calgary and surrounding area. The primary responsibilities for this role are varied; however, you will need to be able to provide fully qualified coordination of construction activities and contract administration in a fast-paced professional, design and delivery environment. Our team is a broad and expansive delivery team working on varying projects with utility works, roadways and multimodal transportation, structural works and bridges, aviation, and rail and transit.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating daily onsite construction activities including liaising with contractors, design professionals, clients and relevant external parties.

  • Overseeing contract administration, including procurement document compilation support, providing input to the development of project schedules, coordinating the work according to the approved schedules, documenting schedule deviations and providing recommendations on schedule modifications.

  • Record and report deviations from contract documents and codes to the Project Manager. Assist with change management documentation as site deviations result in changes and follow through with the responsible parties until resolutions have been met.

  • Schedule, coordinate and conduct onsite observations and inspections with internal and external parties on a full-time basis.

  • Maintain records of activities onsite including work complete, work ongoing and daily record keeping of the ongoing construction.

  • Meet, review and report to the project team on construction status, issues and concerns.

  • Monitor the progress of daily construction activities ensuring construction costs, schedule and quality standards are met.

  • Communicate with and make recommendations to the Project Manager, design professionals, client, owner, developer or contractor, but shall not direct the means and methods of construction.

  • Review and have a clear understanding of plan, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and progress payment applications (QA/QC).

  • Coordinate and prepare final documentation inspections and documents for closeout processes.

  • Prepare documents and maintain file management of project-related information including, but not limited to, correspondence, reports, videos and photos.

  • Actively participate in the implementation of safety controls, lead safety meetings and actively promote safety and a safe work culture in the workplace.

  • Working in a remote site-based field office location including driving and navigating a construction site environment.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to work with others on large complex projects that require teamwork and close collaboration, in a very fast paced and dynamic work environment.

  • Thorough knowledge of construction principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards and safety precautions.

  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with contractor, project team and clients, including ability to resolve conflict situations.

  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the project team, obtaining and sharing necessary information.

  • Strong organizational skills and understanding of task assignment and schedule.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.

  • Working knowledge of critical path method scheduling.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

  • A Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Education and Experience

  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and construction experience.

The position will primarily work in a field office; will require driving and field work.
