We are seeking a Senior AWS Data Engineer to join the Data & Analytics team of our client, a leader in the education sector. This role will be instrumental in advancing the organization’s business intelligence and data capabilities, delivering actionable insights across financial, product, customer, user, and third-party datasets.
This is a 9 month remote contract with chance for extension.
You will be responsible for hands-on engineering of data pipelines, performance tuning of the data platform, and designing scalable reporting, analytics, and modeling solutions. A strong background in AWS, Databricks, Terraform, and SQL is essential. Collaboration with stakeholders across departments will be key to ensuring timely and successful project delivery.
Develop and maintain scalable data solutions using AWS services and big data platforms such as Databricks.
Build robust data pipelines using Spark and Python.
Design and implement cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS infrastructure and Terraform.
Monitor and optimize cloud data platforms to ensure high availability and performance, meeting SLAs.
Apply modern data modeling techniques (e.g., star schema, fact/dimension modeling) in support of analytics use cases.
Translate complex business requirements into scalable technical designs.
Build parallelized ETL processes to maximize resource efficiency and minimize processing time.
Interpret and implement ETL specification documents; utilize transformations such as Aggregator, Lookup, Joiner, Router, and others.
Provide comprehensive technical documentation and solution design deliverables.
Contribute to Agile project workflows using tools like Jira and version control systems like Git.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent work experience.
5+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering roles.
Expertise in data warehousing and modern data lake architecture.
Proficiency with:
AWS services (e.g., Athena with Iceberg, Lambda, EMR, Glue)
Databricks and Spark
Python scripting
Terraform for infrastructure as code
Strong understanding of Agile/Kanban methodologies and project management tools.
Experience in the education or publishing domain.
Familiarity with Tableau, Alteryx, or other BI tools.
Exposure to financial data domains (e.g., sales, revenue, COGS, manufacturing).
Knowledge of IBM Planning Analytics (TM1).
