We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Communications Specialist to support strategic communications within a health equity-focused team. This is a flexible contract opportunity ideal for a communications professional who can transform technical content into compelling materials for internal and external audiences.

The successful candidate will bring strong writing and messaging expertise, especially within a healthcare or social impact setting and the ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Develop 5–6 strategic communication materials, including:

  • A clear, engaging summary of “What is Health Equity?” (e.g., one-pager, executive summary)

  • A best practice paper outlining the evolution and impact of a health equity office, to be shared with peer institutions

  • An outreach strategy for a targeted grant initiative

  • Additional materials that synthesize key issues and progress updates

• Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to translate existing content into polished communications
• Ensure alignment with tone, messaging, and accessibility guidelines for both internal and external stakeholders
• Create content that is sophisticated, clear, and action-oriented—ready for publication or distribution

Qualifications and Skills

• Proven experience in communications, ideally within healthcare, research, or the non-profit sector
• Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to synthesize technical content into reader-friendly formats
• Experience crafting messaging for both internal (staff, leadership) and external (public, partners) audiences
• Familiarity with health equity or social determinants of health is a strong asset
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working remotely
• Design experience not required, though ability to collaborate with designers is a plus
