This role can be based in any Energy & Resources office location in our Eastern Canada Region. The position requires regular in-office presence in support of our flexible work practice and will likely require travel to a variety of offices throughout Eastern Canada.

Your Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Regional Sector Leader (RSL) within Energy & Resources, who will focus on growth for our Mining Sector within our Canada East Region (Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick).

The Regional Sector Leader (RSL) is a key part of E&R’s regional business leadership. Reporting through the Sector Leader (SL), RSLs are part of the WIN pillar. The RSL is a “seller/doer” responsible for developing strong client relationships, a deep understanding of the sectors they support, full knowledge of what Stantec can do, and leading pursuits within their sector(s) and respective geographies. Liaisons between local / regional teams, the Sector Leaders, and practice community, RSLs work collaboratively with BC Practice Leaders (BCPLs) and Account Managers (AMs) to grow Stantec's market position within their region or geography, while supporting development of the regional technical teams and providing market/client intelligence.

RSLs leverage their sector technical skills, industry and market knowledge, and client / partner relationships to identify, pursue, win and deliver strategic projects that align with regional priorities, sector growth plans, and business goals. They also collaborate with other BOUs within the region to identify and support integrated sector growth opportunities for Stantec.

PRIMARY FOCUS AREAS

Positioning, Pursuing, and Winning Work – Engage directly in identifying, pursuing, and winning strategic sector pursuits in the region. Working closely with the region’s BCPLs, Technical Practice Leaders (TPLs) and Project Technical Leads (PTLs), the RSL will develop winning technical approaches to pursuits, identify technical staff needs, and follow through to ensure exceptional delivery for sector projects.

Strategy – In collaboration with the SLs and AMs, identify and monitor market trends and drivers in the region to develop and execute business plans, drive the business development pipeline and backlog to ensure a steady, sustainable business and ability to achieve associated sales targets in the region.

Utilization and Engagement – Meet utilization target of 35% through involvement in regional and sector focused projects to enhance client relationships and positioning for future work.

Branding and Name Recognition – work with the SL and the local BCs to align promotional spend to enhance the business’ industry brand within the region.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy

    • Regional Focus: Collaborates with Sector leaders and BCPLs to assess market potential and analyze business opportunities for the region, driving execution of sector growth strategies.
    • Maintains knowledge of sector-related industry drivers, trends, and regulations in the region.
    • Supports Sector Leader in identifying sector Top Pursuits.
    • Works with SL to develop a long-term strategy for the sector, with a focus on regional impacts/drivers, key clients, and projects.
  • Business Development and Sales

    • Accountable for meeting regional sector targets.
    • Participates in or leads go/no-go decisions for sector projects in their geography.
    • Identifies and supports pursuit of regional opportunities; engages directly in relationship development, positioning, capture activities, and identifying subject matter experts for pursuits.
    • Works with regional BCPLs and others to drive the development of technical approaches and solutions that create competitive differentiation. The RSL shall provide insight into sector trends and needs to ensure staffing supports growth and changes occurring in the sector.
    • Responsible for accuracy of sector opportunities in Pipeline within their geography.
    • Supports the BOU Annual Business planning by developing region specific priorities and sales targets for their given sector that identifies key clients, projects, revenue and sales goals, marketing strategies for brand development and industry engagement, MBD spend budgets, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Teamwork and Collaboration

    • Acts as a liaison between the Sector and the region, helping to communicate and align priorities at both levels. Participates in both sector coordination and BC/regional coordination meetings, as well as relevant AM calls with a regional focus.
    • Works collaboratively with BC leaders in the region to correctly assign soft and hard backlog appropriately in the Net Revenue Forecasting (NRF) tool.
    • Maintains strong communication with BCPLs to inform them of key pursuits and staffing needs
    • Helps identify and recruit professionals in the sector to meet resourcing needs in the region.
  • Branding

    • Contributes to and helps execute sector branding strategies and plans.
    • Works with SLs, BCPLs, and AMs to identify conferences, trade shows, and sponsorships that support sector growth and development. Identifies and coordinates appropriate participation in regional conferences.
    • Actively participates in and/or takes on leadership role in regional trade organization(s).
  • People Management

    • Coach, mentor, and support the development of a team of professionals dedicated to growing our business and further developing Stantec’s profile in the marketplace.
    • Supports annual reviews of staff and supports/facilitates sector succession plan development

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated leadership with the ability to engage, connect and motivate others as well as empower, mentor, teach, drive, and promote staff.

  • Deep knowledge of multi-discipline engineering services of sector focused projects and a strong understanding of project delivery with geographically distributed teams and client base.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% and work outside normal hours of operation.

  • Valid driver’s license

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Minimum 15 years of experience within your sector, including 10 years of direct involvement in or managing pursuits/proposals for delivery of engineering design and/or construction services.
