The Community Paramedic (CP) will work with primary health care providers (family physicians, hospitals, clinics etc...) and be mobile in the community providing care to patients in their home or community setting. This would include non-emergency (non-9-1-1) calls and regularly scheduled visits for clients. The CP will work alone in a non-response capable vehicle and be responsible for, but not limited to, direct patient care, incorporating advanced assessment, consultation, and treatment. The CP is expected to execute independent critical thinking skills in order to deliver appropriate care that is consistent with their current scope of practice and to work well in a team with direct medical oversight. As part of the patient care team, the CP will also determine the most appropriate additional health care resources required if any, in continuing the patient’s treatment.  The CP will be an integral part of the continuum of care, acting as a liaison with physicians, nurses, and the greater medical community in meeting patient needs. The successful applicant will occasionally perform duties in relation to their ability and scope as a licensed Paramedic. It is expected that even in the CP position the successful applicant may be called upon to perform these duties at any point throughout a shift.

We require A Paramedic (ACP) to fill a temporary full-time vacancy as a Community Paramedicine Paramedic with the ECNS program.

The position entails, but is not limited to the following:

  • Independent advance clinical care.
  • Safe transportation of individuals, including emergency and non-emergency responses, as well as inter-facility transfers.
  • Maintain and operate ambulances and related equipment in accordance with patient needs and public safety.
  • Clinical expectations and responsibilities for Advanced Care Paramedics are based on the current National Occupational Competency Profile (NOCP), the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics registration requirements and Medavie Health Services West policies, procedures and protocols.

As the ideal candidate for this role, you will have:

  • Must meet all legislated requirements for Advanced Care Paramedics in Saskatchewan.
  • Must be a registered, active Advanced Care Paramedic with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics; or eligible for registration through the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics.
  • Must submit with resume a copy (front and back) of a valid Saskatchewan Class 4 Driver's License (or equivalent).
  • Must submit with resume ACLS, ITLS and CPR C for Health Care Providers.
  • Must submit with resume a current (within last 60 days) valid and clean criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check.
  • Must submit with resume a current (within last 30 days) driver’s abstract.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently as a member of the team and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work all shifts as assigned, maintaining a good attendance record.
  • Must have a high regard for confidentiality.
  • Must have excellent work habits and exhibit professionalism.
  • Willingness to participate in professional development and education related to the role is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform as a paramedic professional.
  • Demonstrated work performance of independence without supervision.
  • Demonstrated work initiative.
  • Demonstrated participation as an active member of a/the professional team within a/the organization.
  • Demonstrated the ability of critical-thinking problem-solving techniques.
  • Demonstrated a high level of inter-agency and organizational communication abilities (verbal/written.)
  • Demonstrated a high level of understanding in responsibility pertaining to paramedic profession.
  • Demonstrated a high-level understanding in responsibility pertaining to employment requirements.
  • Instructorship an asset.

The successful applicant will occasionally perform duties in relation to their ability and scope as a licensed Paramedic.  It is expected that even in the Community Paramedicine position; the successful applicant may be called upon to perform these duties at any point throughout a Community Paramedicine shift.
