The Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team!
As a Writer/Editor, your responsibilities include:
• Review draft responses to ensure accuracy, clarity and appropriate tone, style, grammar and formatting.
• Draft letters, emails and memos related to ongoing initiatives and emerging issues.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with the Minister’s Office, Associate Minister’s Office, Deputy Minister’s Office, Communications, department staff, and other ministries.
• Develop resources to support staff in using appropriate language, tone, grammar, and style.
• Stay current on ARTS processes, standards and factors influencing correspondence development (e.g. style guide updates and executive client preferences).
• Participate in Ministerial Correspondence Unit (MCU) planning activities to establish priorities, set timelines, and enhance team processes.
• Support the resolution of concerns raised by Albertans who have contacted the Minister or other elected officials regarding their experience with the health system.

Minimum Recruitment Standards
Requirements:
• University graduation in a related field such as Arts or Business plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
The following knowledge or experience are considered as assets:
• Knowledge of communication theory and how language influences messaging and tone.
• Strong writing, editing, speaking and interpersonal skills are necessary to provide accurate responses.
• Knowledge of ARTS systems, processes, guidelines, templates, and standards.
• Knowledge of information management, and Government of Alberta information management policies.
• Proven negotiation and collaboration skills to work effectively in a cross- functional team environments.
• High degree of emotional intelligence and sensitively to recognize and respond to audience needs.
• Awareness and understanding of the provisions of the Health Information Act and FOIP pertaining to privacy and confidentially in sharing personal and/or health information with third parties.
• Ability to understand and interpret medical terminology, government legislation, policy, programs and services.

This is a full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
• One full-time temporary position until October 27, 2026
This position is located in Edmonton, Alberta.
