The Sheriff's Branch is dedicated to promoting safe and resilient communities, performing a wide range of activities in collaboration with other law enforcement and policing partners in Alberta. In addition to the office of the Chief, there are five directorates within the Branch: Court and Transport Services (CTS), Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services (FWES), Protection and Communication and Investigative Services (PCIS), Operational Support Services (OSS) and Sheriff Highway Patrol Services (SHPS).
Are you interested in providing analytical support, researching, gathering, analyzing and disseminating information and intelligence to primarily assist the Safer Communities and Neighborhoods (SCAN) unit, and also assisting the Fugitive Apprehension Sheriff Support Team (FASST) in their investigations? Reporting directly to the Inspector of SCAN in Calgary, while working directly and collaboratively with SCAN and FASST investigators. The role of the analyst is to evaluate and if appropriate, complete robust investigations into complaints of certain types of criminal activities at premises such as producing, selling or using illegal drugs, solvent abuse, unlawful sale or consumption of alcohol, prostitution, child sexual abuse, and gang or organized crime activities. This position will also periodically assist the FASST analyst, providing target research, threat assessment and target sheet creation. This support provides a critical function assisting the FASST team members with both warrant apprehension, target selection and analytical support.
To be successful in this role you must be a strong communicator, being agile and diligent with prioritizing your workload, planning, and consensus building skills along with a high level of professional sensitivity. Organizational skills are imperative, as you are responsible for proper handling, secure storage, and dissemination of unclassified and classified information and intelligence reports, both self-generated and from law enforcement, intelligence agencies and other government departments. The ability to multitask in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment often with competing priorities and situations and objectives is a strength of yours.

University degree in a related field (law enforcement, policing, law and society, social sciences etc.) plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience in data collection, analysis, interpretation and report writing.
The following are considered assets:
• Comprehensive knowledge of the criminal justice system and related legislation including familiarity with Criminal Code of Canada, Residential Tenancies Act, Provincial bylaws, Municipal Governance Act and the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act and the associated data management systems.
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of SCAN mandate and the responsibilities of Provincial and Federal law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies.
• Excellent verbal articulation and written skills in data analysis, report preparation, communication of client needs and presentation of recommendations or possible solutions to issues and challenges.
• Knowledge of procedures and practices related to security of information, and storage of classified and sensitive material is required.
• Knowledge of social network analysis as it relates to formal and informal criminal organizations, risk management, investigative techniques and rules of evidence.
• Analyst contacts and network within police and government agencies.
• Work experience with police or government agencies as an analyst.
Equivalency: Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of 1 year of experience for 1 year of education OR 1 year of education for 1 year of experience.

This is a full-time position working 36.25 hours a week, Monday to Friday. Potential exists for an Hours of Work Averaging Agreement and/or flexible work agreement.
