Manulife Investment Management (“MIM”) is a global wealth and asset management business with assets under management and administration of approximately US$900 billion as of December 31, 2024.  Investment strategies include fixed-income, specialized equity, multi-asset solutions, and private markets. The Private Markets group has investment teams managing real estate debt, real estate equity, timber, agriculture, infrastructure equity, private equity and private credit on behalf of institutional clients and Manulife’s balance sheet.  Investment teams operate in a boutique environment, empowered to make investment decisions in line with their singular philosophy and their clients’ long-term objectives.

Within Private Markets, the MIM Infrastructure Investments Team (the “Team”) consists of investment professionals whose work is focused on making private equity investments in the infrastructure sector. The infrastructure sector includes various sub-sectors such as renewable energy, power and utilities, transportation, and digital infrastructure. The Team manages assets for the Manulife general account and third-party investors which include insurance companies, endowments, pension plans, and family offices. Today, the Team manages over C$17 billion of capital including direct equity investments, co-investments, and fund investments.

The Opportunity

The MIM Infrastructure Investments Team is seeking a candidate for the position of Associate, Infrastructure Investments. The successful candidate will participate in the evaluation of new investment opportunities and assist with monitoring investments over their holding period. As an Associate, you will work closely with Analysts, Senior Associates, Directors, and Managing Directors to:

Responsibilities:

  • Support senior investment officers in evaluating the performance of existing portfolio companies and analyzing new investment proposals

  • Take ownership of financial modeling and preparing investment committee materials for new investment opportunities

  • Represent the investment deal team to internal and external partners with increasing responsibility

  • Be a key contributor in the planning and completion of investment due diligence

  • Prepare periodic reviews of the performance of companies in which we have invested, including investment research and financial analysis

  • Become well versed on infrastructure companies and sub-sectors

  • Execute responsibilities with a general understanding of investment law, documentation, and compliance 

  • Contribute to a flexible, dynamic, and team-oriented working culture

Qualifications:

  • 3 - 5 years of transactional or investment work experience in a related field (e.g., in public or private market investments, investment banking, consulting, or accounting)

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, accounting, economics, or engineering preferred (CFA, CPA and/or CBV is an asset)

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills along with ability to think strategically 

  • Excellent financial modelling and financial statement analysis is critical 

  • Proven track record to run multiple projects and progress joint workstreams with internal partners (legal, accounting, and portfolio management)

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills needed to effectively present on investment opportunities to senior management

  • Attention to detail is an important success factor in this position

Salary range is expected to be between

$96,000.00 CAD - $159,000.00 CAD
