L’ingénieur satellite travaille en étroite collaboration avec le reste de l’équipe des opérations, basée à Saint-Hubert, Québec, et veille à la bonne santé de la flotte de satellites. Qu’il s’agisse d’observer les particules d’ozone, d’imager des catastrophes naturelles ou de traquer des comètes, chaque mission est unique avec des besoins et des exigences de soutien différents. L’ingénieur satellite est chargé de surveiller et de maintenir la santé des missions, de mettre en œuvre des procédures de récupération en cas de contingence dans le cadre d’un horaire de garde 24/7, de maintenir les configurations matérielles et logicielles, ainsi que d’identifier des améliorations et de tenir à jour toute la documentation pertinente. Participant aux phases de lancement et d’orbite initiale (LEOP), de mise en service, de routine et de désactivation, le poste d’ingénieur satellite est un rôle exigeant qui contribue à garantir la réussite de toutes les missions. Le poste d’ingénieur satellite comprend quatre niveaux selon les qualifications et responsabilités de l’employé : Débutant, Intermédiaire, Sénior et Chef d’équipe.

Responsabilités

  • Vous possédez une solide formation technique avec un esprit curieux et analytique, capable d’examiner des scénarios parfois très complexes pour comprendre, expliquer et recommander des solutions à des publics techniques et non techniques
  • Vous surveillerez les performances de toutes les activités en orbite planifiées afin d’évaluer l’état de santé des satellites et de tenir à jour les registres
  • Vous fournirez un soutien en temps réel pour la mise en œuvre d’activités spéciales ou de contingence, en confirmant leur bon déroulement ou en identifiant des comportements anormaux du satellite.
  • Vous êtes à l’aise pour exprimer vos opinions et l’équipe comptera sur vous pour un soutien d’expert :
    • En ce qui concerne les enquêtes et rapports d’anomalies,
    • Pour la révision et l’exécution des opérations de récupération,
    • Y compris dans le cadre d’une rotation de garde.
  • Vous contribuerez au développement des opérations des futures missions, au LEOP et à la mise en service.
  • Vous travaillerez efficacement pour soutenir les opérations et les mises à jour des satellites dans les délais impartis.
  • Vous effectuerez des analyses de tendances à court et long terme de la télémétrie satellite afin d’évaluer une éventuelle dégradation des performances des sous-systèmes.
  • Vous identifierez les problèmes, recommanderez et mettrez en œuvre les changements approuvés au plan d’opérations de base, à la configuration du satellite, aux procédures manuelles et automatisées, ainsi qu’aux bases de données, lorsque ces changements sont nécessaires pour maintenir ou améliorer la disponibilité ou les performances du satellite.Qualifications
  • Diplôme universitaire en ingénierie, de préférence en génie électrique, mécanique, informatique ou aérospatial.
  • Maîtrise de l’anglais parlé et écrit requise ; le français est un atout.
  • Une expérience dans un ou plusieurs des domaines suivants serait un atout :
    • Systèmes de contrôle,
    • Systèmes radiofréquence,
    • Systèmes d’alimentation électrique,
    • Mécanique orbitale,
    • Système d’exploitation Linux,
    • Systèmes de gestion de bases de données,
    • Intelligence artificielle et apprentissage automatique,
    • Compétences en programmation (Python, Java, SQL, Perl, Matlab, C, etc.)

Position Overview

The Satellite Engineer works hand-in-hand with the rest of the operations team, which is based in Saint-Hubert Quebec and ensures a healthy fleet of spacecraft. From observing ozone particulates to imaging natural disasters to hunting comets, each mission is unique with different needs and support requirements. The Satellite Engineer is relied upon to monitor and maintain mission health, implement contingency recoveries as part of a 24/7 on-call schedule, maintain hardware and software configurations, as well as identify improvements and keep relevant all documentation. Participating in the Launch and Early Orbit (LEOP) phase, Commissioning and Routine phases and the Decommissioning phase, the Satellite Engineer is a challenging position that helps ensure all mission deliverables. The SE position counts four different levels depending on employee qualifications and responsibilities: Entry, Intermediate, Senior and Lead.

Responsibilities

· You have a strong technical background with an inquisitive and curious mindset, able to investigate sometimes very complex scenarios to understand, explain and recommend solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences

· You will monitor the performance of all scheduled in-orbit activities to assess satellite health status and maintain logging records

· You will provide real time support for the implementation of special and contingency satellite activities confirming successful activity execution or identifying anomalous satellite behaviour

· You are comfortable expressing your opinions and the team will look to you for expert support:

o Regarding anomaly investigations and reporting,

o Reviewing and implementing the execution of recovery operations,

o Including an on-call rotation

· You will strive to provide support to future mission operations development, LEOP and commissioning

· You will work efficiently to support satellite operations and upgrades in a timely manner

· You will perform satellite telemetry short and long-term trend analysis to evaluate potential satellite subsystem performance degradation

· You will identify issues, recommend and implement approved changes to the baseline operations plan, satellite configuration, manual and automated procedures, and databases, when such changes are required to maintain or improve satellite availability or performance

Qualifications

University Degree in Engineering preferably in one of Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science or Aerospace

· Fluent knowledge of both spoken and written English is required and French is an asset

· Experience with one or more of the following elements would be an asset:

o Control systems,

o Radio frequency systems,

o Electrical power systems,

o Orbital mechanics,

o Linux operating system,

o Database management systems,

o Artificial intelligence and machine learning,

o Programming skills (Python, Java, SQL, Perl, Matlab, C …)

· This position requires qualities such as autonomy, team spirit, adaptability, stability, analytical skills, sense of responsibility, a willingness to learn, and decision-making ability

Additional Requirements

· The ability to meet the requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Program is mandatory. All employees are required to apply for and receive a Government Security Clearance.
