Overview: Portfolio Delivery Managers (Engineering Networks and Platforms) have end-to-end accountability for the successful delivery of the program/projects under the portfolio. The Portfolio Delivery Manager will directly manage and direct project managers leading Engineering Networks and Platforms (server and storage) infrastructure projects.
Core Responsibilities:
· Technical Expertise: Possesses a deep understanding of Networks, Storage, Server, Cloud (AWS/Azure) infrastructure domains, along with the regulatory environment in the banking sector. Demonstrates technical proficiency in managing networks and platforms (storage) infrastructure projects.
· Project Management: Has end-to-end accountability for the successful completion of the program/project in the portfolio by collaborating with business and technology stakeholders. Applies knowledge of Project Management Delivery Lifecycle (PDLC) and Software Development (SMLC) Lifecycles.
· Portfolio Management: Rigorously and diligently governs and tracks portfolio delivery status to ensure commitments are achieved within agreed scope, time, cost, and quality parameters as defined under BMO’s project management corporate directive and process.
· Quality of Deliverables: Ensures deliverables and end results are of the highest caliber with a clearly articulated scope and quantifiable business benefit. Applies governance and controls to ensure that projects/programs meet all performance, quality, compliance standards, and conform to appropriate methodology.
· Talent Management: Hires, coaches, evaluates, and retains high-performing talent in the group. Ensures appropriate staffing and capacity levels of Technology Project Managers. Provides leadership to Project and Program Managers to help drive and execute on programs and projects.
Education:
· Infrastructure (Networks, Storage, Servers, etc.), Cloud (AWS/Azure), Project Management, or Business Management Degree. Valid PMP designation is a plus.
Background:
· 8+ years of experience in project and program management, including managing direct reports. Proven experience in managing networks and platforms (storage and server) infrastructure projects.
Key Accountabilities:
· Supports project management activities and ensures adherence to BMO’s project management methodology and practices.
· Identifies and tracks portfolio risk and develops mitigation plans to manage risk (e.g., technology, change management, procurement, business process management, requirements management).
· Provides leadership support to resolve major project issues and escalations via direct engagement with project/program stakeholders.
· Offers ongoing coaching and support to Project Managers in effective escalation, issue resolution, dependency management, and release execution.
· Manages portfolio budget up to the value of the approved funding.
· Identifies portfolio drivers and constraints.
· Establishes effective portfolio oversight and governance bodies and engages the appropriate stakeholders to support the direction of the portfolio.
· Works in close partnership with the Business Management/Enablement teams and key stakeholders for monthly reporting requirements (e.g., Finance, compliance, Status, Issues Management).
· Develops an understanding of organizational complexity to interact and engage with the appropriate matrixed areas for the construction and delivery of the solution.
· Develops innovative approaches to create solutions to resolve problems and significant issues within the project’s mandate.
· Identifies, develops, and/or promotes best practices and applies learnings from the more fluid parts of the business.
· Possesses relationship management and consulting skills.
· Possesses solid presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
· Accepts personal feedback to improve individual performance and is adaptable to change.
· Applies Organizational change management skills, including identifying people, processes, and technology implications to various end users/stakeholders and designing the change and implementation plan.
· Able to deal with complex business or technical issues and make appropriate trade-offs/escalations as required, while maintaining an overall project or program perspective.
· Continuously improves program/project processes to ensure the best possible deliverable outcome to improve overall efficiency and improve the bank.
Leadership:
· Identifies opportunities to strengthen the capability of the technology organization at BMO, such as sharing project management expertise, mentoring employees, building communities of practice, and networks across technology.
· Stays abreast of industry technical and business trends through participation in professional associations, practice communities, and individual learning.
· Coaches, mentors, and develops their project management teams to achieve higher levels of performance.
· Engages superior Talent practices to ensure that Project Management resources consistently provide optimal project delivery support.
Core Knowledge:
· Core project management skills, including multiple aspects of the PMBOK (i.e., Project Management Institute's PM Body of Knowledge).
· Knowledge and expertise in the use of project management methodologies and tools (e.g., Clarity, MS Project, SharePoint repositories, Project Management Lifecycle (PDLC), and Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) if applicable).
· Knowledge of waterfall and agile methodologies.
· Sound business knowledge in all or some of the finance, treasury, taxation, or credit, market, operational risk domains supported by previous experience.
· Technical Proficiency: In-depth understanding of network infrastructure, storage solutions, and server management. Familiarity with configuring, maintaining, and optimizing network systems, storage arrays, and server environments.
· Infrastructure Management: Experience in managing and overseeing projects related to network architecture, storage infrastructure, and server deployment. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to these areas.
· Cloud Integration: Knowledge of integrating network and storage solutions with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) to ensure seamless operation and scalability.
