Position Overview

Calian ITCS is currently seeking a Network Switch Engineer for a 6-12 months renewable full time contract opportunity to perform the following duties:

Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage Operation, maintenance, and provisioning of wireless and Fiber network elements including Ericsson Switch Platforms, Fujitsu, Ciena, Alcatel and DACS Nodes, and Comverse Voice Mail.
  • The installation of equipment, wiring, testing, acceptance, commissioning of circuits in assigned Customer Facilities.
  • The planning and implementation of work orders associated with UMTS, GSM, LTE,5G, Gateway Switches, Data, Voice Mail, and Transport Facilities on a live network, Optical Equipment.
  • Ensure all administrative duties are tracked and completed including trouble tickets, incident outage reports, and work order as builds.
  • Position requires a holistic understanding of the entire network including SS7 Signaling, voice and data platform functions, PSTN interconnects, Sonet, TCP/IP and inter-switch traffic routing.
  • Liaison and coordination with Customers, Telcos, Vendors and various Customer Departments.
  • Facilitation and escort of contractor resources in assigned Customer Facilities.
  • Work with field technicians, other switch locations and third party carriers during network outages and implementation activities.
  • Self-directed learning of new equipment to ensure that projects can be completed and new services can be maintained.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and participate in performance enhancement and continuous improvement initiatives based on historical departmental and team performance.
  • Learn and adhere to all applicable Health and Safety regulations, in accordance with legislation and related Company policy.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • 3 years minimum experience in the telecommunications industry.
  • Experience with SS7 Signaling, IP, Fujitsu Fiber Nodes, Ciena, Alcatel MUX’s, LTE, GSM, UMTS, GPRS,5G From Ericsson
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, IP and serial communications applications, UNIX, and programming/scripting skills.
  • Cisco CCNA designation is nice to have.
  • Technical diploma or degree or equivalent experience, with DEC/AEC or other professional designation preferred.
  • Must have excellent written/oral communalization (English & French), team leadership, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a car/vehicle
  • Availability to be on call rotation and also to work flexible hours including night shifts.
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to project manage the implementation of network projects when assigned.
  • Ability to work under pressure to resolve critical network outages in a timely manner.
